Eric’s Update……

Maggie Smith has just updated us with Eric’s life over the last 12 months, since she kindly took him into her home. Here’s Eric’s tale, we hope you enjoy reading it!
The story of Eric : part 2
A whole year has passed since I brought Eric back from KAR Rescue Centre to live with me.
He has experienced his first ‘family’ Christmas, and didn’t need any mistletoe to give his ‘sister’ Ruby a kiss! He was also very sure which Christmas toy he wanted!
In fact, Eric has had a lot of new experiences in the last year: along with the other three dogs he has twice been to boarding kennels and loved coming back home so much that he did his usual trick of dunking himself in the water bowl! Then onto his favourite chair and didn’t move until teatime! He has also been to the beauty parlour, and returned looking very pleased with himself. Having at least one of the other dogs with him in potentially stressful conditions has helped him, and he is happy to be with any of them.
Eric has become more confident, he will approach visitors, and will often offer a welcoming paw. He has a real sense of fun …. he sometimes collects the toys and puts them on his chair, but is never aggressive. His mealtime tap dance up on his hind legs is hilarious and has me laughing every time.
To stop him pushing in front and snatching a treat before anyone else, is still a work in progress, he knows he should sit and wait, but he is just too excited!
Dogs love routine, and having the others around has helped Eric, but he now has the confidence to do his own thing, like deciding not to go out when it’s raining, and sitting on the settee when he thinks I’m not looking! He is fantastic with the cats and often shares his chair with a couple of them.
For a dog who has spent nearly twelve years of his life in a Rescue Centre, I think he is amazing, and shows that he must have had some very good care.
Not every old dog will be as easy to re home as Eric, but any one of them would be a character and would appreciate some home comforts in their old age. Especially now winter is here.
Please visit the Rescue Centre, I am sure there is one who will tug at your heart strings.
