REGISTERING & MICROCHIPPING YOUR DOG

COMPLYING WITH THE TRNC LAW

From 1 January 2014,  the TRNC law states that all dogs over the age of six weeks should have a microchip.

Microchip details for all dogs must be registered with the Government Veterinary Department and a permit issued.

Here’s what you need to do to comply with the TRNC law.

If your dog already HAS a microchip:

Visit a private vet clinic and present your dog’s Vet Card/Pet Passport with the microchip entry. The clinic will complete the Government Registration form. You will need to pay the Government fee, plus the vet’s clinic costs. The clinic will then send the form to the Government Veterinary Department, who will enter the details on their database and issue a card. This card will be returned to your vet for you to collect.

If your dog does NOT have a Microchip:

Contact your local vet, who will be able to insert a microchip, complete the necessary forms to register the microchip with the Government Veterinary Department, and return the card when completed. You will need to ask your vet for a list of their charges.

You are required to complete the Microchip registration for each dog only once.

Note: If your pet dies, you move house, change contact details or you transfer ownership, it is very important that you contact the Government Veterinary Department and ask them to update their records.

You are also required by law to REGISTER ANNUALLY at your local BELEDIYESI department.

This annual registration should be done every January, as your registration runs from January to December each year.

Take your dog’s vet card, along with the card showing the microchip details, to your local Belediye office who will complete the registration. If you have a female dog that is neutered, check that it is clearly written in the vet book and make sure to point it out, as it makes a big difference to the charges.

You will be given a receipt and you should be given a numbered tag for your dog to wear. Not all local authorities are giving these identity discs so please ask for one – it is the current law for your dog to wear one.

CHECKLIST:
* Make sure your dog has a microchip, and it is registered with the Government Veterinary Department
* Always inform the Government Veterinary Department of any changes
* Complete annual registration with your local Belediye office every January.
* Make sure your dog is wearing an ID disc.
* Do not allow your dog to cause problems in the community, or roam the streets unattended.

Please be a responsible animal lover and follow the rules.
