A RECENT REVIEW VIA TRIP ADVISOR!!!!

What wonderful work KAR does!!
While I was visiting my parents over Christmas vacation, I went to the Kyrenia Animal Rescue to see the shelter and walk some dogs. When I first got in, I was impressed by how organized and clean the (rather large!) kennels were and how happy the dogs seemed to be. I was quickly greeted by one of the staff (Ian) and after talking about what kind of dog I hoped to walk, not only did he get the dog for me but brought him all the way out and passed some of the kennels so it would be easy for me to take from there. When I came back, another staff member (Andrew) took the dog from me and brought him back to his kennel, which gave me a chance to look around before I went out with another one.
The staff at KAR clearly care about the dogs: the kennels are very clean, there were ample dog houses in each enclosure and the dogs were well-groomed. ( was actually told several of them had just come back from a teeth cleaning!) Staff are also keenly aware of what housing situations make for happy dogs. One of the things they were doing when I came was introducing a new dog to two dogs that were already in a kennel together to see how they would get along. Instead of just putting dogs in kennels together, the staff take time and effort to determine which dogs they will best cohabitate with, so they are all happy together. This struck me as a very important and very professional practice in an animal rescue shelter like this, so was happy to see part of the process involved in that.
I was also really happy to see the large, enclosed exercise area they had created for the dogs. This area had different benches, poles, ramps and other obstacles that the dogs had to interact with and run around. This makes for an easier option for potential adopters to play with the dogs, as well as anyone who would like to come and visit with the animals but might find it hard to go on a walk per se. Not to mention how good it is for the dogs themselves to get some much-needed play and run time!
Overall, I was really impressed with how KAR ran their centre: the staff were knowledgeqble, helpful and attentive; the kennels were clean and the houses well maintained; and the dogs looked happy and healthy. I will be back next time I visit and encourage anyone else to go who is an animal lover!
