HNY!!!! our first FGF of 2020!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! It is the first FGF for 2020 and this is a heartwarmer.
Nick and Simon moved here late summer 2019. They arranged with KAR PetTravel to bring Murfee into the North and to the new family home.
From the outset they were determined to help KAR, so firstly donated half the furniture from their container!!!! Then they became volunteers at the Centre, meeting and greeting visitors….. then it happened, well Poppy happened, during a meet and greet they saw Poppy, they met, introduced Murfee, fell in love and on Christmas Eve she completed their TRNC Family.
Thank you Guys for you considerable support of KAR, you gain the title of KAR Heroes and join our merry little gang!!!

A PLEA!! Help us, help our cats!

A PLEA!!!! A number of our centre cats are recovering from a nasty gastro virus and as such have been on a restrictive diet of boiled chicken. To introduce them back onto a biscuit diet, we have been advised by the Vet to place them on this brand of biscuit to aid recovery. It is available from PetLine (Catalkoy) and is 75TL for a 2kg bag. Please, please, please help us get the cats back to full health. 2 bags will last us 2 days, so we need help with this!!!
You can purchase us a bag from PetLine or donate via the website. Please mark your donation ‘centre cats’.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2020 – from everyone at KAR.

Everyone at KAR wishes you a very merry christmas and happy 2020.
From us to you a promise that will continue our pledge into and beyond 2020.
This is our furbabies wishes for Christmas and 2020.

Once I was a lonely dog, just looking for a home.
I had no place to go, no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets, in rain in heat and snow.
I ate whatever I could find, I was always on the go.

My skin would itch, my feet were sore, my body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat or a gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance, I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.

And then one day I heard a voice so gentle, kind and sweet,
and arms so soft reached down to me and took me off my feet.“
No one again will hurt you,” was whispered in my ear.
“You’ll have a home to call your own where you will know no fear.“

You will be dry, you will be warm, you’ll have enough to eat.
And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet.”
I was afraid I must admit, I’ve lived so long in fear.
I can’t remember when I let a human come so near.

And as she tended to my wounds and bathed and brushed my fur,
she told me about the rescue group and what it meant to her.
She said, “We are a circle, a line that never ends.
And in the centre there is you, protected by new friends.“

And all around you are the ones that check the pounds,
and those that share their home after you’ve been found.“
And all the other folk are searching near and far
to find the perfect home for you, where you can be a star.”

She said, “There is a family, that’s waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we’ll find them, just you wait and see.“
And then they’ll join our circle they’ll help to make it grow,
so there’ll be room for more like you, who have no place to go.”

I waited very patiently, the days they came and went.
Today’s the day I thought, my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think it wasn’t meant to be,
there were people standing there just gazing down at me.

I knew them in a heart beat, I could tell they felt it too.
They said, “We have been waiting for a special dog like you.”
Now every night I say a prayer to all the gods that be.
“Thank you for the life I live and all you’ve given me.“

But most of all protect the dogs in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet.”

KAR Pet Travel latest happy ever afters.

We always say – and it is very true – that a dog is for life it is not just for Xmas. But we couldn’t help trying to get 3 dogs “home in time for Xmas”
Fred (who used to be called Teddy) is one big bundle of KAR cuddliness. He is large in size – many visitors to the office were astounded by the size of his bespoke box !! – large in personality and large in gentleness.
He travelled from Ercan to Heathrow and was then collected by Vanessa and family..
We recently had this update from them ………………. “Fred arrived safely and in high spirits. Journey home from Heathrow airport was horrendous but he was such a good boy in the car. Our German Shepherd Meg loves Fred and they play really well together. Bart our mini dachshund treats him with the distain that he treats all dogs!
Fred is so gentle, everyone who meets him understands immediately why we wanted him home with us.
Thank you for your help with getting Fred to us. I will stay in contact and send regular updates.
Love regards Vanessa”
Then we had the Ahhhhhhh —- Ahla — a small but perfectly formed KAR diva. She spent the night with a KAR volunteer before setting off with a travel buddy (Tata) on a journey that took them into UK via Belgium and France.
Tata, the princess, on arrival in the UK was being home boarded overnight in Surrey before then continuing on her way home to Scotland.
Throughout all of their cargo and EU journeys KAR Pet Travel kept the dogs owners updated fully – including updates on a delay at Brussels. The Brussels border control authorities thought, that new rules had come into play and which affected ANY pet arriving from anywhere in Cyprus ! After much discussion with border officials and government bodies the situation was resolved – it was a pure misunderstanding on the part of the border officials.
Ahla and Tata then traveled (separately) through Belgium and France and then into the UK.
Lis messaged us to say
“Hello we wanted to let you all know that Ahla (Sue) is settling in brilliantly – she arrived last night & has made friends with our dog Alfie & is currently cuddled up next to me on the sofa! Thank you so much for your help in getting her to her forever home – you are all amazing people. she’s settled in so well. She is getting along with Alfie well and just loves cuddling up on the sofa with us so Alfie has started getting in her bed! She’s been out on her lead walking up and down to school and we will take her on the park this weekend although we won’t be letting her off for a while. Lola has asked for a dog agility kit for the garden for Christmas – she has already taught Alfie a few tricks so I think she will be well trained before long. Glad you got back ok- you are doing wonderful work for these dogs & we are so grateful you helped us to get Ahla safely home. Have a great Christmas”
Tracey also contacted us to say …
“Tata is enjoying her new bed and toys and seems settled  Thank you again with all of your help getting her safely to the UK! “

Our 3 dogs all travelled by road, at some point, either from Heathrow or from Brussels …. … they were all “driving home – driving home … driving home for Christmas”
Merry Christmas to them and many Happy Days ahead.

Sleep tight, Keylie.

Farewell to one of our Golden Oldies – it is always hard when a pet dies and our animals are KAR pets – so it difficult for us too.
Do you all remember Kylie – she had been with us a for a long long time and we had been looking for a foster home for her twilight time. She had various health issues and needed an experienced caring foster home which we found.
Since leaving KAR Kylie has spent some very happy days in a loving family home (for the 1st time in her life).
Unfortunately recently her health deteriorated and she was not expected to recover – her foster family, El;aine and the vet all agreed it was time to say Goodbye to Kylie.
She suffered no pain and was with people who loved and cared for her right to the end.
Thank you to everyone who tried to help us with homing Kylie and THANK YOU to her foster carers – you gave her something precious when she needed it.
Thank you Kylie for unconditionally offering us your love and devotion. RIP Kylie
