Education Team – visit to Bellapais School.

Visits to Bellapais school.

On February 25, the KAR Education Team, along with Ruby, our new 4 legged classroom assistant visited a class of 4/5 year olds at Bellapais school. Through activities, the children learnt what is needed to keep a cat or dog happy and healthy.
They also learnt how to stay safe if approached by a stray dog, and how to ask the owner before touching a dog on a lead.
Ruby was perfectly behaved, and even timid children came and stroked her.
After we had left, the children drew pictures of Ruby, which were on put on display.

On February 27, the team visited the school again to teach a class of 8/9 year olds.
Again, the emphasis was on how to look after their own pets, but also touched on the needs of street animals, and, how they also need food and water.
As well as interactively learning how to approach a dog on a lead, and to stand still if approached by a stray dog, the children all had a copy of our Happy Pets Workbook to work with, and to take home and show their parents.

On both occasions, we were warmly welcomed by the teachers, and it was a pleasure to visit the school, and meet the children.
We are very grateful to the staff who acted as translators for us, we do our best, but help is essential, especially with the little ones!
This is the first time we have been to Bellapais school, and I am sure it will not be the last!

The Education Team would also like to say thank you to the teachers and parents who collected food etc. for the dogs and cats at the Rescue Centre, and hope they will visit soon.

KAR Pet Travel… stats for 2019

Leaving On A Jet Plane, Come fly With Me, Take Me Home Country Roads, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, Homeward Bound …. all songs about travel. There are many many more.
All of them could be sung by the owners of the many pets that KAR Pet Travel helped to relocate in 2019.

57 dogs (16 of which were KAR Center dogs) and 23 cats left the TRNC with our help and 33 dogs, 27 cats and 1 rabbit came into the TRNC.

Each and everyone of them had their own individual travel plan based on what the pets needed and the owners needed.

One thing , for all of them, remained the same – the pets had caring, loving owners who only wanted the very best for them – as did we.
To all of our 2019 travelling pets and owners – it was a pleasure to meet you and to be able to help. Here’s wishing many Happy Days ahead for all of you.

Little Billy.

Four kittens were born under floorboards 6 weeks ago and were being domesticated by a kind soul with view to rehoming. On Friday someone removed the kittens and threw them into a busy road. One survived. Suffering for extreme trauma we doubted he would survive. On Sunday he started eating, but wouldn’t move. Today Monday he is on the road the recovery. Meet Minstral. 6 weeks old. One very lucky little boy. Happily he has also received a homing offer and will join his new family once recovered. (Update: meet Billy).
