SIDNEY AND NAOMI

Let us introduce you to Sidney & Naomi. Naomi (black & tan) was dumped over a fence at the centre during 2018, she was in really poor condition – very skinny and uncared for. Just look at her now with her beautiful shiny coat! The lively lad is Sidney (black & white) who came to the centre as a puppy towards the end of 2018 along with his sister Sylvie. Both are still young but each would love a forever home. As you can see they are really friendly dogs who would make a great companion for someone. If you are interested in one of them, please come to the centre to meet them – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.

CHARLIE, HAMISH AND KITTY

Last week we had the pleasure of helping Charlie, Hamish and Kitty relocate to Scotland. Theirs had been an on/off/on planning exercise due to , as often happens in TRNC, changes in circumstances, house sales, flight availability etc. But last week the 3 cats flew to Edinburgh (via Istanbul) and after completing their entry checks they happily went home with their owners to Hairmyres in Scotland.
Lets hope that they have time to acclimatise before the Scottish Snow arrives.
Happy Days Charlie, Hamish and Kitty.

GOOD BOOKS TO BRIGHTEN DULL WINTER DAYS

Are you looking for a good book to read during these dull winter days? Karin and her dedicated team have a book stall at Lambousa market every Saturday between 8am and 2pm. There are all sorts of different books to choose from so please go along and take a look. All proceeds from the book stall help provide care for the dogs and cats at the centre. We also need donations of books and these can be dropped off at our Karakum office (Min-Fri 9am-1pm) or the shops in town (Mon-Sat 10am-1pm)

Winnie

We thought we would show you what a fine young man Winnie is growing up to be! He’s now 7 months old so won’t get much bigger. He loves going for walks, especially now that the cooler weather has arrived! We’re amazed that no-one has offered this sweet boy a forever home, please don’t let him spend the rest of his life at the centre. If you would like to meet Winnie, then come along to the centre – we’re open 7 days a week, 9am to 1pm. (And we see that Evie has managed to get into this video as well!!)

VOLUNTEERING IS GOOD FOR YOU AS WELL AS OUR ANIMALS

With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering can be enormous. Volunteering offers vital help to those in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. The right match can help you to find friends, connect with the community and learn new skills.
Giving to others can also help protect your mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose. While it’s true that the more you volunteer, the more benefits you’ll experience, volunteering doesn’t have to involve a long-term commitment or take a huge amount of time out of your busy day. Giving in even simple ways can help those in need and improve your health and happiness.
VOLUNTEERING AT OUR RESCUE CENTRE
Volunteers working at our rescue centre will have many different duties, like cleaning shelters, feeding animals, dog walking, and assisting in the rehabilitation of traumatized animals. You might also be asked to engage in efforts to control the overpopulation of stray animals, especially if you have previous experience.
Being a rescue centre volunteer is good for your emotional, physical, and mental health. It is scientifically proven that spending time with animals helps lower your stress levels and blood pressure. It will also keep you active, especially if you prefer to walk dogs.
VOLUNTEERING AT OUR CHARITY SHOPS
Volunteers will enjoy their time at a charity shop. It gives you the chance to meet people, make new friends, become part of a team and learn new skills while raising money for KAR. You may be asked to sort donations, price goods, work on the till, and create window displays.
KAR heavily relies on volunteers so we can make most of the donations and we are always looking for volunteers, If you think volunteering could be for you please contact our office by e-mail at: kartrnc@gmail.com, Please enclose a brief resume together with information of any skills you can bring to us. We look forward to welcoming you into Team

HARPER

This sweet girl is Harper. She was dumped at the centre back in March and was very frightened. Over the last few months, with the care and patience of the centre staff, she has become more confident. She is still unsure about people she doesn’t know but is happy once she gets to know you. Harper is looking for a kind, patient owner who can help her confidence to grow – is that person you? Please come up to the centre and meet Harper – we are open 7 days a week 9am to 1pm. Remember, even if you can’t offer her a forever home, you can sponsor her for just £10 a month.

GOOBER AND TERRI

Today’s kennel mates are Goober & Terri, two very sweet, loving dogs. They both came in as puppies and have now been at the centre over 5 years – we’re amazed neither of them have been homed. Have you got room in your heart (or your home!) to offer one of them a forever home? Don’t forget that, even if you can’t offer them a home, you can sponsor one of them for just £10 a month. Please share for Goober & Terri.
And did you see our beautiful Evie gratecrashing the video at the very end!! Bless her, she just had to be in the video!

KITTIE CATS ON PARADE

The videos of our dogs are very popular so now it is the turn of our cats! We have lots of beautiful kitties, some have been at the centre for far too long. As you will see, they love to climb and chill out or just snuggle up in a comfy spot. If you are interested in any of these lovelies, please come to the centre to meet them, we are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Or you can sponsor one of them for just £10 a month. Thank you in anticipation from the cats at the centre!
