HANDANS TALE EPISODE 1

Viewers should be aware that although generally based on facts some names have been changed ( to protect privacy) and some scenes have been dramatised……
Setting the scene……sunlight flickers dancing through the leafy canopy of trees providing much needed shade….birdsong can be heard above the gentle murmur of residents voices and the tinkle of glasses being filled with bubbles…..every now then and the sunlight catches on the silver platters and cutlery …..lunchtime at KAR.
” Well C’MON !! ….we all need dreams ! Especially us Gals n Guys.
The reality……
It is 39c….with humidity running above 70 %……there is no ” flickering sunlight”. No – it is scorching searing sweaty sunshine…..the tree canopies are not providing enough shade so we have a plastic netting to help protect us …..the birdsong is drowned out by the deafening sound of cicadas amidst the general murmur (!!!) Of 250 residents belting out their own rendition of Food Glorious Food……the platters are the big and small shiney ( and some a bit rusty ) food bowls waiting empty but ready (to our delight) to be filled.
This is the reality….The reality of KAR ….and we love it….everything about it ( well ALMOST everything !) me and my friends just love it.
But you know ….. i am not sure if you other Gals n Guys have found out – you don’t have to be alone to be lonely. You can be most alone even with others surrounding you.
I know this…..I feel this…..
But this Gal has dreams…..oh if only dreams could come true “
Closing scene
Handan sighs, mooches over to the corner of her compound turns round and round, sighs again and lies down to sleep.

TERRI

Terri is another little KAR Dog who was adopted by a family in the UK. As soon as she had finished her travel prep (which takes 4 months) it was time for her to say her Goodbyes to Ian and Elaine and set off for the UK
She arrived on time and it was not too long, while her final UK checks were completed, before she was on her way to her new “furever” home.
“Just to let you know that Terri has settled in very well and is now part of the family. Hour by hour she is becoming more settled, at night she sleeps in the crate which we think makes her feel more secure when we are not there with her and Jack sleeps upstairs also and Terri will not tackle the stairs at the moment, maybe later in her own time. She is wearing a Thunder shirt in the photos, just to make her feel more secure”.
We will send more photos as she progresses.
Thanks to you and the team once again, you are doing a great job”
Happy Days Terri….
.
(Thunder jackets/ vests work under the theory that pressure applied to the dog’s torso causes a calming effect similar to swaddling a crying infant or hugging a distressed person.)

KARRIE (KARAMEL)

An update about Karamel who left our center recently to be with her “furever” family in the UK.
” Good morning all!
Well, gorgeous Karamel or Karrie as she’s becoming known now, has been with us just over a week and what an absolute delight she is. She’s the most sweet natured girlie and just such a happy dog. We cannot thank you enough for taking such fantastic care of her, she really is in amazing condition – such a beautiful soft coat bless her.
So we are having lots of fun introducing her to our area and she’s already met lots of friends and of course the rest of our family who adore her as much as we do.
Our other 2 spaniels – both boys are learning to live with her and it’s interesting watching them sort out their pecking order!! Karrie loves to play and very often has a mad zooming moment when she runs around the garden like crazy thing!! It’s just so lovely to see.
So life is wonderful and we have our beautiful girl now here sharing everything with us. She sends you her love and of course we all do too.
Our very best wishes to you all! “
Happy Days Karrie !

‘G’ PUPPIES

A couple of days ago we posted a video of the “C” litter of puppies, now it is the turn of the “G” litter of pups!
Two of the litter were very lucky and found their forever homes here in North Cyprus, but we have 5 of them left at the rescue centre. As you can see, they are so gorgeous – they love to play and run around, even in this heat!!
They are now about 5 months old, have been health checked and vaccinated – what each of them needs now is a home of their home. Despite the love and attention they get from the wonderful staff & volunteers at the centre, a rescue centre is not where we want them to spend their whole lives.
You are welcome to come up to the centre to meet the pups, the centre is open every day betwee 9am and 1pm but please come up early as it is very hot at the moment. Even if you are not in a position to home one of these lovelies, please share their video and let’s hope we can find homes for them very soon.

DAPHNE

Sometimes we lose focus on the truly inspirational reasoning behind what we do in life. For everyone who has been involved in Daphne’s story and prayed for her recovery, here it is –
Daphne’s Journey – never give up on the weak and vulnerable.
They can, with love and attention, rise again.
Here is the proof and here at Kyrenia Animal Rescue we never lose that focus.

ZARA

This poor little 8 week old puppy is all alone at our Rescue Centre with no one to play with. She has been health checked and has had her 1st vaccination. Our other puppies are bigger than her so it’s unfair to put her in with them. She is such a cutie.
I came across this poem written by Sharon Arger and just hope this comes true for all our Rescue Centre pups but especially for Zara as she’s all on her own!
They always seem to pass me by,
I never know the reason why,
All my friends have found a home,
And only I remained alone.
But finally someone came,
And spoke to me with gentle tone,
I hardly dared believe it true,
Into my human’s arms I flew.
Our first embrace – my heart beat fast,
A family of my own at last,
And when tonight I rest my head,
In my new, warm and cosy bed,
A prayer I’ll send high up above,
May all shelter pups find love.
Please, please, please if you have room in your heart and in your home for poor little Zara (or any of out other rescue animals) please either call up at the centre, they are open 7 days a week 9am to 1pm, or contact our office in Kyrenia on kartrnc@gmail.com. Please don’t let Zara spend her entire life, alone, at the Rescue Centre.

‘C’ LITTER PUPPIES

Just look at these puppies – aren’t they lovely??
This is the ‘C’ litter who we posted a video of a week or so ago. We can’t believe it but not one of them has been offered a home, no not a single one.
As you can see they are all lively, healthy puppies and we really do not want them to spend the rest of their lives at the rescue centre.
If you think you might like to offer one of them a forever home, then please come up to the centre and meet them. Alternatively, please please share for these pups and lets find them the homes they really do deserve.

DILARA

This lovely lady is Dilara and she is another of our centre dogs looking for their forever home. She arrived at the centre when she was a small puppy and that was 7 years ago! it is so sad that this beautiful dog has never been offered a home.
As you can see, Dilara is a labrador cross and she definitely has the personality of a lab! She is very friendly, loves her walks and gets on well with other dogs.
She was doing her very best to catch an annoying flying insect while we were filming but we don’t think she managed to catch whatever it was!!
So if you are interested in meeting Dilara, please come up to the centre to see her – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Please share for Dilara so we can find her the forever home she so badly deserves.

HANDAN’S TALE – TRAILER

Netflix gave you Tales of the City – BBC gave you The Canterbury Tales – Channel 4 gave you The Handmaids Tale ……. now KAR is pleased to present “Handan’s Tale”…..

TRAILER
There once was a shaggy blonde female TAG Dog – with the number 926 on her bright red ear tag. She had been health checked and neutered as part of the KAR TAG scheme and she was living in the community of Kyrenia area.
Unfortunately for her she was not readily accepted, by humans and the existing community dogs, so it was decided that she would have to be moved up to the KAR Rescue Centre.
Valentines Day 2013 Tag 926 came to live at KAR. She was a happy friendly dog and so staff named her Handan (which in Turkish means happy, joyful, cheerful) and she soon settled in.
Over the years Handan has had visitors playing with her, grooming her, taking her for walks but never offering her a home of her own.

Until now !!!!!!!!

We have been contacted by a couple in the UK who were interested in adopting one of our dogs ,. They ,very sadly, had lost one of their older dogs. In their words
“ The reason we are adopting her is because we had a little pack of three dogs but we recently lost one of our dogs Keo to a very aggressive heart tumour and she was only 9 years old. I am heartbroken that she did not get her senior years with us and so I want to give that opportunity to another dog which is why we chose Handan and not a pup! We also chose Handan because she is a bit bigger and although she is still a Cyprus poodle type she still looks very different to Keo as I didn’t want to just replicate Keo – I want to have new and different memories with Handan.”

Handan and KAR will be sharing with you her “Tale” over the next few months. You can follow her progress as she gets ready to make herself a new life – in a home of her very own after being with KAR for the last 8 years.

Coming soon will be Episode 1 of “Handans Tale”
