H E L P !!!!!

H E L P !!!
Once again we are sending a plea for help out to our wonderful friends and supporters.
Both of the washing machines we use 3 or 4 times a day EVERY day have broken and that leaves us with NONE. They are used to wash towels and cat and dog bedding (but not puppy or quarantine animals – that gets destroyed for obvious reasons) and with 300+ animals in our care that’s a lot of towels and bedding!
Does anyone in TRNC have a good working order washing machine (preferably large load 7 or 8 kg) that they no longer want or use please? We can arrange pick up.
Thanking you all once again for your support.

GINGER CAT APPRECIATION DAY – 1 SEPTEMBER

There’s nothing quite like having a furry footed feline friend bombing around the house and being the best buddy a person can ask for.
Dogs may be man’s best friend for some, but cats are our bosom companions, even if they can be aloof and contrary. For many people, that just makes them that much more interesting!
And the best of all cats? While admittedly I’m biased, many people would say that the best cats are the orange furred balls of love that are Ginger Cats.
Ginger Cat Appreciation Day is here!
Please let me introduce our 4 gorgeous ginger cats who currently live at our Rescue Centre. We have Beko (ginger and white with fabulous green eyes), Godfrey (ginger and white relaxing in the shade), Nelly (ginger and white who sadly only has 1 eye) and Simba (all ginger having a chill in the sun)
All our animals at our Rescue Centre are available for adoption. If you have room in your hearts and in your home for one of these fantastic felines or any of our other cats and dogs please do visit our Rescue Centre. They are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm.

REQUEST FROM OUR RESCUE CENTRE

As the TRNC is slowly becoming more accessible to tourists we have had a number of requests from our supporters and followers asking is there anything they could bring with them, for the centre, we find difficult to get here.
The answer is YES PLEASE.
We need Vitamin E Oil please. It doesn’t have to be the expensive stuff, the bottle we are using at the moment is from Tescos. We use this to treat many varied skin complaints and we have had some great results using it.
We also would like some waterproof “doggy boots” please, sized medium to large. No we haven’t gone completely bonkers (though sometimes I do wonder). We use these on dogs that have dressings on their foot (feet) to keep the dressing clean and dry. But it doesn’t rain much in Cyprus I can hear you say. I agree it doesn’t but every dog enclosure is cleaned with running water every day and, just like children, if there’s a puddle there to be jumped in, they will jump in it!!
The following pictures are not recommendations they are just an idea of what we would like if at all possible please.
Thank you so much

ADOPTING OLDER DOGS WHO HAVE BEEN IN OUR RESCUE CENTRE FOR MANY YEARS – EREN AND WAFFLE

Eren and Waffle were both dumped at our Rescue centre back in 2014. Eren was on May 12 and Waffle was one day later on 13 May and they have lived together ever since.
Donna contacted KAR earlier this year saying she was coming to live in TRNC and was looking for a dog to adopt. Well, to cut a long story short, one dog became two (they were kennel mates anyway so it made sense).
Here is an update, word for word, from Donna so you can read for yourselves how well they have adapted to their new furever home even after spending over 7 years in our rescue centre.
“We have now had Eren and Waffle for four days and I am amazed at how quickly they have settled into the apartment.
The first day was a little stressful for them but we allowed them to settle in quietly and just gave them space.
We gave them a safe space to sleep at night so that if there were any little accidents then it was not an issue however, they have not had any accidents in the apartment at all.
They love their works and we have got into a lovely routine of a quick walk first thing, breakfast and fuss and then out for a bit longer walk before coming back for a lazy snooze in the shade.
They love being out on our balcony and we had a real break through today when we went swimming as they were left on the balcony and when they saw us coming back to the apartment, they both met us at the door with tails wagging.
I was really apprehensive about taking on two dogs who had been in kennels for so long, but with a little patience, lots of reassurance they have settled into our home as if they have been here all time.
They are still a bit nervous when there are strange noises. When I hoovered on the first day then hide but this morning, I was able to hoover whilst they just lay in their bed watching.
People on our site have commented on how happy they are when we take them for a walk. Waffle was more confident than Eren when we were walking initially but now Eren pushes herself forward and wants to be in front.
When we collected Eren, KAR told us that she did not like being watched when eating, but that has not been an issue she has been more than happy to eat in front of us. We just need to make sure Waffle does not pinch her food as she is a bit greedy.
It also only took them a couple of days to realise that when you open the fridge then they may get a treat like a piece of cheese.
With time, patience, reassurance and lots of love then even after being in kennels for years dogs soon realise, they are on to a good thing.
I am so glad that we did not go for a puppy and we have been able to provide a loving home for two very special little dogs who deserve to have a forever home.”

WILF

Meet the bundle of energy that is Wilf!
We posted a video of this handsome boy a few months ago and couldn’t believe that he didn’t receive any interest. Wilf is just over 2 years old, has loads of love to give and a very waggy tail!
As you can see, he doesn’t keep still for very long so his ideal home would be one with a garden so he can run around and explore. As with all our adult dogs, Wilf is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Is Wilf the boy you need in your life? If so, please get in touch or come to the rescue centre to see him for yourself – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.

HAMISH

This handsome young man is Hamish.
Hamish was dumped at the centre on our rubbish pile along with his 2 siblings when he was just a tiny puppy. We were so pleased when he found a home but then saw his photo on Facebook as a lost dog. So we collected him and contacted his owners but they never bothered to come and get him – how heartless!😡
Hamish is now just over 2 years old so still a young dog – can you give him the home he so badly deserves? The centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm if you would like to come and meet Hamish – he will be very pleased to see you!

IVY

We posted this video of Ivy back in the cold wintry days of February. Unfortunately Ivy didn’t receive any offers of a home so we are trying again!
She was found in the mountains back in December 2020, we can only assume she was unwanted and therefore dumped. Ivy is about 1.5 years old, a lively girl and as you can see, she has a fine set of floppy ears! She would love a garden to run around in and explore to her heart’s content.
All our centre dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (when they are old enough) If you would like to give Ivy a home, please come up to the centre and meet her – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Or you can sponsor Ivy for £10 per month – our sponsorship scheme provides us with a much needed regular income. Please share for Ivy and let’s find her a forever home!

PEBBLES

This beautiful girl is Pebbles and she is looking for her forever home. She has been at our rescue centre in North Cyprus since 2014, yes 7 years. Pebbles was rescued when she was just a small puppy along with her siblings – they all found homes but she was left behind. She loves her walks and is such a loving dog – she would make a wonderful companion for someone. If you think you might be that person, then please come up to the centre and meet her – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Please share Pebbles and thank you for reading her story.

HETTY

Here’s Hetty, who is another of our long term residents looking for her forever home. Hetty came to us back in 2014 when she was just a tiny puppy – she was found at one of the local restaurants all on her own – goodness knows what happened to her Mum and siblings.
She is a very sweet little girl who loves to go for walks (when it’s not too hot!!) and she gets on well with other dogs. We are amazed that such a lovely dog has spent 7 years at the rescue centre and we really would like to find her a forever home.
Our rescue centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm so please come and meet her if you are interested.
Even if you can’t offer Hetty a home, you can sponsor her for just £10 a month – please e-mail our office kartrnc@gmail.com for more information.

HANDANS TALE EPISODE 2

Opening scene – Handan is sashaying along the red carpet, gently flicking her blonde locks over her shoulders whilst giving doe eye looks to the throngs of her admirers.
Reality check – she is running around like a loon, barking constantly and tail wagging like crazy.
“Hey you will never guess what ….. I mean really who’da thought it … the “Crew” have told me that I have only gone and bagged myself a family – a family just for me. They explained that is why I had been down to get those nasty nasty jabs from the vet (and there was me worrying that I had caught that blummin virus, we keep hearing about that the humans keep getting ). Mind you it is nice to get out of the mayhem every now and then, but for JABS !!!! and it is quite scary on the Outside.
So i have had 2 jabs and then they tell me that I will soon have to give blood – ummmmm I’m not so sure about that !!! Will I get it back ?
I hope it is going to be alright – 2 of my friends left last week t go to “families” – they left and we haven’t seen them since – I do hope it’s going to be alright.
The Crew keep telling me how lucky I am —– jabbed twice and then having to give away some of my home-made blood – not sure if I call that “lucky”. The Crew tell me that my family live in somewhere called Hertfordshire – it is nice and green they tell me and they don’t have them dammed Cicadas who are enough to give a gal a headache. So it can’t be too bad can it?
I must admit to feeling an intsy bit excited – not too much you understand – just an intsy bit….for now “
Closing scene …….. Handan mooches up and down for a little while, sniffing the searing hot air, turns around and suddenly jumps onto her kennel —-she looks all around her with an inquisitive look in her big eyes. Can she see Hertfordshire from up there ???
