SHADOW – LUCKY NUMBER 7?

Seven is supposed to be a lucky number but unfortunately for this lovely girl, 7 is an unlucky number.
Shadow was one of a litter of seven who came into the centre back in 2019. Six of them found homes abroad or in TRNC but poor Shadow got left behind. Can you imagine how sad she felt, as each one of her siblings went off to their forever homes but no-one came for her?
We would be so happy if some kind person came along and gave her that longed for home of her own. As you can see, Shadow is a loving girl, what she needs right now is someone to return that love.
Shadow is in good health, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. If you are interested, please come to the centre and meet her – we are open ever day of the week from 9am to 1pm. Please, please share for Shadow!

RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY

On the third Saturday in September, Responsible Dog Ownership Day reminds pet owners to make a promise to your furever friend.
The observance encourages current and future pet owners to commit to being responsible for their loyal hound. Being responsible protects not only the dog but all those who may be affected by him, too. Dogs bring many benefits to our lives. Ensuring they remain healthy, happy, and safe is a vital part of our job as dog owners.
The pawsabilities for excellent pet care include:
Veterinary care
Training
Grooming
Exercise
Proper disposal of waste
Identifying household risks and dangers
Acceptable socialization
Registration according to local regulations
We need to be on the lookout for their well-being and the well-being of those around them. It may come as a surprise to many how much care dogs require. Keeping them healthy and safe includes many considerations. Their size, energy, medical care, temperament, and many other needs are the dog owner’s responsibility. Often, dogs bring unexpected expenses. We need to be prepared to make decisions regarding their care when illness or injury occurs, too.
Dog owners know how rewarding a canine companion can be. At the same time, a responsible dog owner knows they are accountable for their dog’s behavior and health. Those rewards require effort and genuine commitment. Share your tips and suggestions for those considering adding a dog to their family. Pose questions for others regarding how they maintain a canine relationship. Give a shout out to your vet, groomer or another service for helping you to be a responsible dog owner.
We have over 300 animals at our Rescue Centre all waiting for their responsible owner. If you tick all the boxes to be a responsible owner and you are prepared to commit yourself, for may be as long as 15 years, to the wellbeing of a dog please do come along to visit our Rescue Centre. They are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm.
For more information on responsible dog ownership, visit www.akc.org. Use #ResponsibleDogOwnershipDay to post on social media.

HOW CAN 1 PERSON SAVE 100 CATS?

STREET CAT NEUTERING SCHEME
A reminder to you all that our Street Cat Neutering Scheme is up and running again. If you know of a street cat (or many street cats) in the Kyrenia area that need neutering and you would like us to help please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com or 0533 869 4098 for an appointment. The office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm. All we ask for is a small donantion of 80TL per cat towards the cost of the medication given to the cats (long lasting, slow release anti-biotic and a flea, tic and worming treatment)
May be an image of cat and text that says "How can 1 person save 100 cats? Easy. Just spay one."

COURTNEY

Today it is Courtney’s turn to appeal for a forever home! She is one of the “C” litter and is now about 4 months old.
As you can see, Courtney does a nice little turn for the camera so that you can see what she looks like from all angles! Just look at that wagging tail and those fine ears – she is so lovely. She is an affectionate girl who loves her cuddles and kisses – as Elaine our centre manager can testify!
The rescue centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm if you would like to meet Courtney for yourself. Please share for this gorgeous girl and let’s find her that forever home.

LUCKY DAY FOR MIDGE

Midge was dumped at our Rescue Centre during our first lockdown in March 2020. He was re-homed in June 2020 and we thought great, that’s Midge in his furever home. Phew!
A couple of weeks ago Elaine spotted, on the Altin Patiler page on Facebook, a photo that was so similar to Midge, the same markings and everything. She contacted Midge’s owners in case Midge had escaped and they were worried about him. They assured her Midge was fine and at home. A week later another photo of the Midge lookalike turned up but this time on one of the local vet’s Facebook page. He had been found in a terrible state covered in tics and fleas and in a shocking state. The photos are of Midge looking all dirty from living on the streets and his face all sore from the tics. Elaine contacted the vet and confirmed it was actually Midge. He had been out on the street since at least June 2021. He was taken back up to our Rescue Centre.
The people who found him, Honey and Al, had taken him to the vets and had fallen in love with him. So much so they wanted to take him back to Canada with them. He really had stolen their hearts and they re-named him Lucky. The travel requirements for Canada are not as stringent as other countries so Honey and Al re-booked their own flights back to Canada so they could all travel together.
This really is a happy ever after story but one that highlights that dogs (and cats) are a very big, long term commitment. A commitment that could be for 15 years or more. If you don’t have the time, space, funds or love for such a commitment you really do need to be asking if re-homing is for you.
Thank you Honey and Al for giving Midge/Lucky another chance of happiness.

GORDON

This handsome young man is Gordon and he is one of our “G” litter that we featured in a recent video.
As you can see, Gordon is a very friendly dog with a very waggy tail! On “Hug a Hound Day” he would love someone to give him a big hug and a forever home!! He has so much love to give and would make a wonderful & lively companion.
He is now about 6 months old – he has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. So if you think Gordon might like to join your family, please come up to the centre and see him – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.

HUG A HOUND DAY

While we as dog lovers may not choose to observe every pet holiday, we can all collectively embrace what takes place each second Sunday in September, which is known as Hug Your Hound Day!
A day set aside to squeeze in a little extra time out of our hectic schedules to cuddle our canine companions, pet parents can also show that they hold the idea of the holiday close to their heart by giving their barking buddy a virtual hug through the gift of their undivided attention. From Chihuahuas to Chow Chows, all dogs would enjoy a day of play filled with extra treats, a trip to the local dog park or a dog-friendly event or simply acting like a couch potato alongside their forever parent.
If you don’t have a four-legged friend to enfold in your arms on Hug Your Hound Day (or even if you do!), remember that we have dogs here at your local shelter who would love to receive some extra attention from a new two-legged friend! Our Rescue Centre will be open from 9am to 1pm (as they are everyday) so please do come along and visit us.
Here are a few photos of some of our volunteers and helpers having a good old hug of some of our hounds. We have plenty more, believe me, and they all waiting for a good hug and a furever home.

NEW OPENING HOURS FOR OUR CHARITY SHOPS

Unfortunately due to the new government guidelines of having to check every customer’s Adapass/Vaccination Card/Test Result we find we only have enough volunteers to keep our Gladrags Charity Shop open 3 days a week. This is a double blow to us as we have also just announced reduced hours for our 2Town Centre shops. The change in hours takes effect immediately until we can get more volunteers or the guidelines change. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Our charity shops are one of our biggest sources of income so, sadly, once again, this will have a knock on effect on our animals at our Rescue Centre. Luckily we have a devoted and committed team of volunteers at the centre and throughout KAR and some wonderful supporters and friends so we will continue to care for the animals to the very best of our ability. If you would like to help us out of this predicament and volunteer to help us keep our shops open please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com and they will put you in touch with one of the shop volunteers

JESSIE (was WINTER)

JESSIE WAS WINTER
We were thrilled to get the following update and video from Jessie (was Winter) new family.
“Good morning just to let you know Winter know Jessie has a boyfriend called Bear lol. We all walk together everyday, they get on so well. I only have to say “where is Bear?” and she gets so excited. She has bought us so much joy. Also I cook for her chicken etc and her coat is so shiney and soft. Sue”
Thank you so much Sue. We love getting updates from our animals new owners.

CHICA

This cheeky girl is Chica, one of our C litter who you may remember from one of our recent videos. We love how her ears make her look as though she’s about to take off!
Chica is now about 4 months old, in excellent health and vaccinated. Next on her list is a forever home with her own comfy bed and an owner to love and care for her. Could that person be you??
If you think that Chica is the pup for you, then we’re sure she would love to meet you! Our rescue centre is open to visitors every day between 9am and 1pm.
Don’t forget to share Chica’s video – the more shares she gets, the more chance she has of finding a forever home. Thank you!
