“Hi Elaine. It was lovely visiting your shelter today. the animals looked really happy and healthy. I wish you and your team all the best. thank you for caring for the animals. Matt and Jane”
Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback which was made all the more special when we found out Matt works at PAWS Dog Shelter in Paphos. Caring for animals knows no boundaries.

HANDAN’S TALE – EPISODE 5

Opening scene – the line of limousines are pulling up at the large sweeping stairs up to the front door…. chauffeurs alight opening rear doors – liveried footmen help out the guests all dressed in their finery.
The reality check :
Handan is prancing around the compound and jumping up and down with excitement. Abby and Trev just know that she has a tale to tell .
“You’ll never guess – guess go on try and guess ” Abby has a quizzical look on her face “Hmmm – we are having chicken for dinner today “
That stops Handan in her stride ” No but oh how i wish – guess again”
Trev looks on a bit bored – these girls and their constant chitter chatter sometimes gets on his nerves. He would rather just sit and contemplate about where that pesky lizard disappeared to.
Unable to contain herself Handan blurts out “I have a date a real date”. Both Abby and Trev rush over to hear “all about it ” (as they know they are going to anyway !!)
“Who with” asks Abby.
“No silly not that sort of date – as IF ! A travel date… a date when i am going to Hertfordshire. Now i am being ” readied” i think they call it. I had a bit of a rehearsal this morning. You know how when we go to the vet (urgggh !) we travel in those boxes in the back of our clapped out rickety van . Well it is not nice is it – all that bumping, shaking and noises”
Abby and Trev agree whole heartedly – most uncomfortable at times… but needs must.
“Well today i have been out in a CAR – trying it out. Oh it was lush – not even in a box just sat on the seat where the people sit. I could see out of the windows – oh my the scenery was lovely. there was no bumping and rattling – it was just lovely. Elaine (my chauffeur for a little while) was really pleased . She said my new family will have one of these CARs and i will be travelling in it. She said i had taken to it like a duck to water. Well i was a bit put out by that you know – i look nothing like a duck. More graceful and elegant like a swan don’t you agree ?”
Abby and Trev didn’t reply – they didn’t even really know what a duck or swan looked like. Cats yes Lizards yes, snakes yes, rats yes even the odd donkey but not ducks and swans.
Closing scene
With a shake of her locks Handan wanders off to await lunch. Sitting by her kennel she began to ponder – so many new things to learn about Elaine had explained – stairs, doors, mirrors and so many more – my my she was going to be busy.
A dreamy look passes over Handan’s face – she was nearly there and maybe, while she was waiting, she could practice a certain “wave” for when she is being driven in her new family car.

WOODY

This handsome young man looking for his forever home is Woody.
When he first came into the rescue centre, he was covered in ticks – just imagine how unwell he must have felt! He found to have tick fever but after a course of medication Woody soon recovered.
Just look at him now – a picture of good health and what a stunning boy he is! Woody is about 1 year old and has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. All he needs now is a forever home.
Our centre is open to visitors every day between 9am and 1pm so please come along if you would like to meet Woody. Please share for him and let’s find Woody a lovely new home.

KITTY SNIPPING FIGURES FOR OCTOBER

KITTY SNIPPING FIGURES FOR OCTOBER
Another excellent month for the Team KAR Kitty Snipping Department. In the month of October we spayed/neutered the fantastic total of 45 cats (30 females and 15 males). This is all the more remarkable bearing in mind we have had to scale back our Cat Catching operation due to the shortage of volunteers at our Rescue Centre!
To enable us to continue with our Street Cat/Stray Neutering Scheme we must advise you:
1/. The minimum donation has been increased to 100tl per cat. The donation goes towards the medication administered to the cats during their operation. We give them a slow release anti-biotic and parasitic treatments for worms, tics and fleas. As with everything at the moment the cost of the medication has increased and we are not in a position to cover this price rise.
2/. We urgently need the return of any cat traps, carriers, cages and baskets that have been borrowed from us. Without these we are unable to lend them out to others who want to use our kitty snipping facilities and we do not have any surplus funds to replace the missing ones.
3/. We desperately need volunteers at our Rescue Centre so the cat catching team do not have to work at the centre and can concentrate on catching the street/stray cats. For more details about volunteering at the centre please either email kartrnc@gmail.com or contact the Centre Manager (Elaine) on 0533 863 1950
Big thank you to everyone concerned in producing the fantastic October figures.

GIZMO, GUCCI AND DARBY

Today’s video presenter is Matilda and she is helping us appeal for a home for Gizmo, one of the Huhuahua puppies. Gizmo is now about 5.5 months old and as you can see, he gets on very well with children!
In the background with Matilda’s Mum & Dad are 2 more Huhuahua pups – Gucci & Darby – also waiting for their forever homes.
They are all really sweet, loving puppies – they love cuddles and also love exploring! We think each of them would make a great addition to anyone’s family. So if either Gizmo, Gucci or Darby appeal to you, then please come up to the centre to meet them. We are open to visitors 7 days a week, between 9am and 1pm.

WE NEED YOUR HELP URGENTLY

Our Rescue Centre is looking for part-time workers to regularly cover the hours of Monday to Sunday 8am to 4pm. Duties will include but are not limited to cleaning the dogs and cats living areas and generally taking care of the animals. Transport is available from Girne (Kyrenia).
Even if you can only commit to 1 day a week, that would really help. More than 1 day a week would be fantastic. We just desperately need help.
We are also looking for regular volunteers to act as “Meeters and Greeters” to help show our visitors around. These hours are 9am to 1pm.
If you would like to join Team KAR at our rescue centre please contact Elaine (Centre Manager) on 0533 863 1950 or the office by e-mail on kartrnc@gmail.com You don’t need to have done this sort of work before as full training will be given. You just need to love our cats and dogs and want to give them the best you can.

THANK YOU CHERYL M

We were delighted to recently receive a donation via Paypal from Cheryl’s Paws for a Cause Fundraising Group. Unfortunately the email address we hold for you Cheryl is incorrect and our thank you email came bouncing back to us. So we would like to thank you via Facebook and hope you see this. Your generous donation will be put towards caring for the starved pup as you requested. Thank You.
