RESPECT YOUR CAT DAY

March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day, an opportunity to show our feline friends love beyond what they receive on a daily basis. Fully respecting your cat goes above and beyond just giving them attention, you must know how to properly take care of them as well as how they would like to be treated, handled and held.
Detailed below are a few different ways to educate yourself and improve your relationship with your intuitive and funny animal:
Know your cat’s body language and sounds: almost 80% of cat owners interviewed in a poll by the National Today said that they can understand what their cats are trying to communicate based on their meows alone.
Only scruff a cat in an emergency: as this is typically a disciplinary measure used by mother cats and therefore not a technique that should be used often
Maintain your cat’s coat: a healthy coat is a healthy cat!
Know how much to feed your cat: not all cats have the same diet
Learn about litter training: this will benefit both you, your home and your cat
We have many cats and kittens at our Rescue Centre waiting for their furever home where they can be loved and respected everyday. Why not use today as an excuse to come along and visit them? Our Rescue Centre is open 7 days a week from 9am, to 1pm

COOKIE

Cookie, a pretty little Border Terrier, recently arrived in the TRNC with KAR Pet Travel. Sarah had discussed the various travel options available and had decided that for Cookie (and for her) the best option would be the “door to door” option via RoC. Cookie was collected, from home by the agents, on Tuesday. She then had her final vet visit where her UK – TRNC Export Health Certificate (organised by the agent) was signed off, she stayed the night in boarding and was then checked into her British Airways flight the following morning. Her flight in Larnaca just before 2.30pm on Wednesday and after her RoC clearance was completed she was transferred for the onward journey into TRNC. Once her TRNC entry process was completed she was then delivered to her new home – guided in during total darkness by Math wielding a torch as the Karpaz was on a rollout power cut !!!
Through out her trip Sara received regular updates on what was happening and was also give approx timescales.
Sara contacted KAR Pet Travel to say
” Thank you so much for everything Kim, I’ve just had a video call with my husband and Cookie, and she looks shattered but is already settling in nicely. It’s wonderful to see that she coped with the journey so well.
She is drinking lots of water, enjoying the new smells (the Karpaz is a sensory wonderland for terriers!) and she has already christened the terrace 💩
I’m so grateful for every bit of help you’ve given us, thank you.
Sarah, Math, Milly & Cookie “
Happy TRNC Days Cookie x

THANK YOU BEYLER & CO

Workers from Beyler & Co very kindly came and spent the day with us at the Rescue Centre doing some gardening, generally tidying up so we are all neat and tidy ready for Spring and our visitors. They also managed to find time to take some of the dogs out for a walk too.
So we would like to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to everyone at BEYLER & CO for making this happen and all the hard work you did. You can definitely see where you’ve been!
If there are any other companies out there who would like to donate a days work to us we would be very grateful for the help. Please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com to make arrangements.
Here are some photos taken on the day by our Centre Staff and by the wonderful guys and gals from Beyler & Co.

NATIONAL PUPPY AND CUDDLY KITTEN DAY

23rd of March sees us celebrating both National Puppy Day and Cuddly Kitten day.
NATIONAL PUPPY DAY’S goal is to not only celebrate the offspring of man’s best friend but to encourage people to adopt puppies. It was also founded to create awareness of, and put an end to, the cruel practice of puppy mills and farms, and encourages people to “Adopt. Don’t Shop.”
Here are some interesting facts about puppies
Puppies spend up to 20 hours a day sleeping, which helps develop their brain, bodies, and immune system. Eat, sleep, repeat springs to mind.
Puppies are toothless until they are about 4 weeks old. Their hearing and vision aren’t fully developed until this time as well.
Researchers have discovered that looking at pictures of puppies can actually help you focus better.
Puppies start their canine vocalization at around 3 weeks of age, with full barks at around 16 weeks.
They have all their adult teeth by the time they’re 6 months old.
CUDDLY KITTEN DAY
Kittens are social animals and enjoy the company of humans, which makes Cuddly Kitten Day a perfect holiday because on it we give kittens extra cuddles and love. Today, people cuddle and play with their own kittens, as well as the kittens of others. These cuddly kittens can be shown love in other ways as well, by being given treats and new toys.
Here are some interesting facts about kittens
While us humans have 206 bones, cats on average have 244. …
Adult cats have 30 teeth, while kittens have 26.
A house cat is genetically 95.6% tiger.
Cats can run around 48 kph (30 mph), but only over short distances. …
Cats can jump 5 times their height.
We have lots of puppies and kittens at our Rescue Centre all waiting patiently (?) for their furever homes. Why not use today as an excuse to go and visit them and give them a cuddle or even maybe a furever home. We also have many older dogs and cats many of whom would love a cuddle too. The centre is open from 9am to 1pm every day of the week

GORDON

We recently made an appeal for a forever home for Gordon, one of our G litter and we are delighted to report that he has found that home!
Here he is enjoying his new life, we are so happy for him. Have fun in your new home Gordon!

HANK

Sara visited KAR Pet Travel at the end of January to discuss bringing her dog Hank to TRNC. She was concerned as she had heard (through the World Wide Grapevine !!) that because of his breed – an English Bulldog – that airlines would not carry him. Plus, she had been told, even if an airline did carry him it would be dangerous for him.
Sara left KAR Pet Travel feeling much happier – it had been confirmed that Hank could fly and that he could fly into South Cyprus which would only involve 1 flight – to Sarah;s relief.
Hank’s travel planning began. He would be flying into Paphos with TUI as they were not restarting flights into Larnaca until April and Sara wanted Hank over asap. He had a bespoke wooden box , built over sized ( this is so important for snub nosed breeds ).
Throughout the planning Sara was kept up to date on progress and then it was The Day. He was collected from home the day before his flight – his final vet visit was completed (to sign off his UK – TRNC Export Health Certificate) and he was then checked in for his flight.
His flight arrived a little early and his RoC entry process went smoothly.
Throughout his journey Sara was kept updated – and she was delighted when she received the message to say that he was officially “a TRNC resident”.
She was even more delighted when Hank was delivered to her, safe and sound, in Karsiyaka – a few “happy” tears were shed.
It was a UK – TRNC door to door service for Sara and Hank.
Sara has shared some photos of Hank and passed on ” Thank you so much for looking after my Hank so well “
Happy TRNC Days Hank x
