DONATIONS

We would like to say a great big thank you to everyone who has taken the time and effort to bring donations of clothing, linens, homewares, newspapers etc for us to sell/use for the benefit of the animals in our care at our Rescue Centre. We take anything (and I do mean ANYTHING). We’ve had corner baths, drum kits, water coolers, drawers, lighting systems, suitcases etc as well as clothes, newspapers and household linens. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Without you we couldn’t do what we do!
You can bring YOUR donations to our office Monday to Friday 09:00 to 13:00 or to our shops in Girne Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 10:00 to 13:00
Thank you.

DARBY

Today it is Darby’s turn to appeal for a forever home.
She is one of our Huhuahua litter and the sister of Gucci, whose video we posted a few days ago. We’re amazed that these gorgeous girls haven’t been homed yet, they really are stunning dogs. Darby is about 10 months old, spayed and vaccinated. She loves to go out for walks and play with her friends, she really would make a great companion for someone.
Our rescue centre is open to visitors 7 days a week, from 9am to 1pm so please come up and see Darby if you are interested.
Thank you for watching our latest video and please, please share for Darby!

LOKI AND DENIZ

Today’s homing appeal comes from Loki and Deniz – two gorgeous kitties looking for their purr-fect home.
Loki (tabby) is now a year old and Deniz (black & white) is 10 months old, so both are still really young and ready to enjoy life. As you can see, they showed great interest in the camera and took an active part in the video!
They can be homed together or separately, they don’t mind – so if you think you might like to give one (or both) of them a home, then please come and pay them a visit at the rescue centre. Opening hours for visitors is 9am to 1pm every day of the week.

TIME FOR A TRIM

It’s that time of year when our Cyprus terriers need a haircut!
Here’s Nelly with her before and after photos, doesn’t she look pretty after her pamper session? Thanks to Furever Pets Grooming for making her look so lovely.
Nelly would love a home of her own, she is now about 9 years old and deserves some creature comforts in her later years. Please share for Nelly and let’s find her a forever home!

MY TIME WITH KAR – BEV – SHOP VOLUNTEER

KAR ? – what IS KAR we often hear ? It is, as many people know, Kyrenia Animal Rescue.
But what do the “people” in KAR do and why ?
Over the coming weeks we will be bringing you an insight into what some of our volunteers “do” during their “Time with KAR”. Hopefully this will help people understand the multi faceted aspects of KAR and the many people involved in helping KAR – for the overall good of the animals.
My “Time with KAR” – Bev
” I wish I could remember the very first time I went into a charity shop. Did I buy anything, where was it and did anyone see me go in ???? And if I had been spotted then maybe I was ‘just looking for a friend’.
How bizarre that now you can’t keep me out of them !
Having said that I probably never gave it a thought about what went on behind the scenes or the volunteers who greeted you from behind a large counter as you asked them if you could try something on ?. Did I even realise that all the clothes hanging on their rails had arrived at their shop stuffed into black bin bags or boxes and someone you never saw in a back room was tasked with opening and sorting all the donations. Even when I may have left a bag or two outside a closed shop I would never have thought about what would happen to them and the time and effort it would take for them to be sorted.
It actually can be quite exciting as you open a bag wondering what it may contain but I can assure you no one is judged and EVERY bag,box and suitcase is gratefully received no matter how small. We are not trained sellers but will do our very best to find you a bargain and may even find and buy some ourselves.
Having to close our shops during the lockdowns was very hard but on the positive side we hoped being at home gave everyone the chance to clear out their wardrobes at least once…….. I did, but must confess I re-sorted my intended donations and hung most of the clothes back in my wardrobe because of course ‘ I will wear them again one day ‘ !!!!
Over the years I have served many customers who have bought back their own clothes so I’m not the only one who keeps things for sentimental reasons.
Our loyal customers have stayed with us supporting our rescued animals and continue to buy from our 3 shops and I can assure you that even behind your masks we know who you are so THANK YOU 🙂

NEAR EAST UNIVERSITY VISIT OUR RESCUE CENTRE

Thank you to the students from Near East university in Lefkoşa who visited KAR on Saturday morning as part of the Social Education Programme in their courses. They brought some fabulous donations of food with them which went down really well with our animals. They enjoyed spending time in the cattery, playing with the kittens and looking around the centre at the dogs. Two of the students, Vanessa and Lois, helped walk Fletcher and Poppy.
Good luck to you all with your studies.

ESME

You may remember our recent appeal for a home for Esme, whose owner sadly passed away. Well, we have some fantastic news! Esme has been homed by Jean & Richard, two of our wonderful volunteers, who have homed dogs from KAR in the past.
The first photo was taken before her visit to the groomers but you can then see how pretty she looks after her pamper session! The last photo shows Esme chilling out with her new friends, Guy and Hobo, both ex-KAR dogs.
What a lucky girl she is!

SOFIA

We do love a happy homing story and here’s another one! This message and photo was sent this week to Elaine, our centre supervisor, and we thought we would share it with you! (It is also on our Happy Tails page)
“Hello Elaine
I thought I would give you an update for your Happy Tails page – on Sofia (Bailey) she is fit and well and very loving
She is now 8 kg
She has her last vaccine next week and can then go out and about to dog socialising class on the beach and meeting people too 🙏
We can’t wait
Many thanks
And bless you for the work that you do
Kim”
Sofia looks so relaxed and happy in her forever home, we are so pleased for her!

KAR VOLUNTEERS VISIT THE RESCUE CENTRE

Last Friday Elaine was really happy to welcome some of the KAR volunteers. Spookily they chose to come up and visit on the same day!
Carol a member of the Education Team and regular dog walker came with Maggie who also works with the Education Team.
Then Jane and Sara came from No.1 shop in Girne.
It was great for the three sections, shops, education and center staff, to meet and spend time together. Albeit everyone’s prime focus was the dogs and cats they all help with their valuable priceless ,volunteering. Let’s introduce them, we have left to right Elaine, Jane, Maggie, Carol and on her knees Sara.
There was lots of barking, wagging tails and purring from the animals in appreciation of their work too.
