LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR OUR HOUSE AND HOME CHARITY SHOP, KYRENIA TOWN CENTRE

We are very lucky to have 3 charity shops in which to sell your wonderful donations. Unfortunately our busy House and Home charity shop (behind the fire station in the centre of town) is very close to having to close as we only have 1 volunteer in there at any one time with no cover for sickness and holidays.
If you have just 3 hours to spare on a regular basis on either a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday morning and you would like to do something to help the cats and dogs in our care, without actually working at the Rescue Centre, then maybe helping in our House and Home shop could be for you.
Please contact our shop supervisor Gwen on 0533 868 9497 to find out more.

RALPH

Ralph the Wirehaired Hungarian Vizla arrived recently from the UK. His had not been the easiest of travel planning (for one reason and another – totally outside of our control) and his owners were anxiously waiting for him – just wanting to hear that he was finally “in the TRNC”.
As with all of our travelling pets we try and keep the owners updated as to their pets journey as we know how anxious about it they all are. Most care more about their pets travel than their own.
So it was with much happiness that his owners heard the news that Ralph had cleared his customs and government vet checks and was on his way home to them.
His arrival was quite emotional – the family had been through a difficult time with Ralph’s travel plans (totally outside of our control – but back on plan with our help) and they were absolutely delighted to have him home.
A few days after his arrival Stephen contacted us to say that Ralph was settling well and had , in his excitement to be back with them, jumped into the fish pond !
Who would have been the most surprised we wonder – the fish or Ralph !!!
Happy TRNC Days Ralph x

ARCHIE & HECTOR (WAS DAZ & DEZ)

ONCE UPON A TIME

at our centre, there were 3 siblings, Daz, Dez and Drew. All beautiful big black dogs with oodles of energy and successfully re-homed.

A couple of weeks ago we had an update from Canada from Drew (now known as Caleb) with a fabulous video of him playing with another rescue dog called Sidney.

Not to be outdone, this last week we received this winderful video from the UK of Daz and Dez (now known as Archie and Hector) tearing around their local woods.

They’ve all still got oodles of energy and are all enjoying the best life ever in their respective Happy Furever After homes.

JINSY

Jinsy is a Yorkshire terrier cross who traveled from the Uk into the TRNC , via ROC , with us earlier this month. When we hear “Yorkshire terrier” we automatically think “small, lightweight, dainty” . But when we met Jinsy we knew we hadn’t factored in the “Cross” element !
She was small (ish) but quite compact – even stocky or sturdy you could say. But one thing she certainly got from her “Yorkie” heritage was her love of people and her super friendly nature – she was so happy when the Customs officers and TRNC vet spoke to her and checked everything prior to her TRNC entry – she was almost beaming at them and her tail wagged and wagged.
That tail wagged even more and she was positively jumping for joy when we pulled up outside her new home and she could hear Kay and Rogers voices.
It was a lovely re union.
Happy TRNC Days Jinsy (and Roger and Kay) x

BAILEY AND CHARLIE

Bailey & Charlie were dumped in July last year in Karaagac TRNC. They were only young puppies when Dilys and Ian (who already had their own pets) found them. They couldn’t ignore them and took them into their home with every intention of it being for just a short while until a new home could be found. Dilys put all of her efforts into trying to find homes for the 2 pups – but received no offers in the TRNC. So she turned her attentions to the UK. Happily she was successful and found them a new home with Ros (who also has rescue dogs from RoC). Dilys started their travel prep and after everything was completed, and the required time had passed, the dogs were ready to travel.
However their travel plans were disrupted due to an embargo (due to weather damage) being put on pets travelling as cargo through Istanbul. So they needed to wait. Once the embargo was lifted we (KAR Pet Travel) faced another problem – Heathrow were restricting the number of pets arriving and spaces (which need to be booked) were at an all time low. We persevered and finally it was time for the dogs to travel.
It was hard for Dilys and Ian to say “Goodbye” to the dogs but they knew that it was for the best. Since finding them the dogs have grown (quite some !) into lovely friendly happy dogs.
Well done Dilys and Ian …….. and Happy Days Bailey & Charlie xxx

EBONY

Meet one of our black beauties!
This is Ebony – one of our smaller dogs. Lovely Ebony has been with us for over 8 years, far too long for such a sweet girl to be in a rescue centre.
Her best friend Wilf has just gone to a lovely new home in the UK, which has left poor Ebony all on her own. She has seen so many of her friends go to their forever homes but Ebony gets left behind each time. So it would be wonderful if next time it was her turn to go to the home that has eluded her for so many years.
Ebony is now about 9 years old, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Next on her list is a forever home – it’s not much to ask for. If you think Ebony would like to come and live with you, then please come to the rescue centre and meet her. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Thank you for watching Ebony’s video and please share for her!

NIKITA

Just before Christmas last year, we posted Nikita’s appeal for a forever home. Sadly no-one offered her a home so today we are trying again for this lovely girl!
This sweet girl was thrown out of a car when she was just a young puppy – what an awful start in life she had. Thankfully that horrible experience didn’t stop her becoming the loving, friendly dog she has grown up to be.
Nikita is now 4.5 years old and would really love a home of her own. She loves to play, enjoys her walks and is rather partial to a cuddle!
As with all our adult dogs, she is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. If you are interested in offering Nikita a home, then please come up to the rescue centre and meet her for yourself. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Please, please share for Nikita!

SUZEE MOORE

It was with great sadness we learned of the passing of our long time supporter Suzee Moore.
Her mince pies and mulled wine at our Christmas Bazaars were legendary and one was never enough.
She also covered our Public Information Table (Pre-Covid) and was regularly found outside Cafe George in the centre of Kyrenia offering advice about issues and also explaining about the work that KAR tries to do – not to mention selling various pieces of merchandise to help towards the care of our 300+ animals at our Rescue Centre.
Suzee also cared for many cats (and some dogs) in Kyrenia town – feeding them , getting them neutered and generally monitoring their health.
Thank you Suzee for everything you have done to support us over the years. You will be greatly missed. RIP

UPDATE FROM DREW (NOW CALEB)

One of our centre dogs, Drew (now Caleb) went to live in Canada a while ago. He has now been joined by another lucky dog from our rescue – Sidney!
Sidney flew to Canada just after the New Year and here he is having a fun time with Caleb. They just love to play rough & tumble and as you can see, they have oodles of boundless energy! It quite wears us out, just watching them!!
We love to hear about our centre dogs and cats in their lovely new homes, it really does make our day.
