DAPHNE AND HER DOGGLES

Our beautiful Daphne has been suffering with sore eyes, due to an allergy caused by dust or grass. She has drops, which are helping. However, the naughty girl will insist on laying in the sun, which makes her eyes even more red and sore!
So Elaine came up with a solution to help Daphne – a pair of Doggles! Pat brought them over from the UK a couple of weeks ago and as you can see, Daphne looks rather cool in her shades. She wasn’t sure about them at first but now that she’s got used to them, she can laze in the sun and her eyes are fully protected!

UPDATE FROM PITA

We thought we would share this update from Steve about Pita, one of our most lively characters ever at the rescue centre. It’s lovely to hear how she’s enjoying life in the UK!
“Hi everyone I’m PITA, just thought I would give you an update. I have been with my forever family for 6 months now and loving my new life. I arrived at KAR when I was 3 months old and was there for 6 years, the wonderful staff looked after me really well and Carole used to walk me every week. I haven’t mastered the stairs yet but that’s OK coz my dad carries me to bed every night!!! Hope you like the pictures. 1st pic is of me trying to get my dads breakfast. 2nd pic is of my first haircut . 3rd pic is me with Sid (middle) and Daizy who also came from KAR . Moms just told me I’m due another haircut this week . I have my hair done more than her . Love pita xxx”

THANK YOU JANE AND ROGER

A great big thank you goes out to Jane and Roger who brought some fabulous pressies with them to the centre yesterday. The dog beds were made by Jane, brought to the TRNC in her suitcase and are absolutely fabulous. Thank you very much both of you.

TIFFANY

Tiffany’s time to travel……. Tiffany had been with KAR for a while. She had been adopted by Caprice and was quietly waiting to fly to the UK to be with Caprice.
When we recently collected her from the Rescue Center to take her to Ercan, for her flight, she went happily into her box and seemed quite comfy. But just look at how sad she looked in the photo taken at Ercan – but that sad face certainly didn’t last long !!!
Caprice tells us…
” Settled in amazing. She is perfect in every way. She is so sweet and absolutely loves cuddles. Everything went smoothly picking her up and driving back she looked out the back window watching all the cars. She is obsessed with her bed and sleeping! Has a little play with her favourite flea toy, then takes herself to bed for a nap. She also sleeps all throughout the night without making a sound. Thank you for helping with everything. Hope you are all well! X”
Thank you Caprice for giving her a loving caring “furever” home in the UK.
Happy Days and Happy Faces Tiffany xxx

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO DO – SATURDAY 25 JUNE 2022

Are you looking for something to do next Saturday, 25th June? Then please come along to Furry Friends’ Summerfest, which takes place at Sultans Restaurant in Catalkoy. This very worthwhile event is raising funds for animals in need in North Cyprus – see details on the attached poster.
KAR will be represented by the lovely Corinne, who will be selling her embroidered cushions and other goodies, to raise funds for the dogs and cats at our rescue centre.
She can also make personalised dog collars & leads and will be happy to take orders on the day.
The fun starts at 5pm so please come along and support us and other animal welfare groups – we look forward to seeing you there!

HANDSOME

Handsome by name and nature !
It is very important to us that , when we are arranging a pet’s journey into/out of the TRNC that it is as smooth as possible. However sometime problems crop up that are outside of our control – it is how we deal with those problems that is also very important to us and owners. We often need to act quickly often at very short notice – and we always try and update the owners about any issues.
Handsome came into the TRNC, via RoC, recently and his journey was beset with flight issues. – as many people will have seen recently on the UK news flights were chaotic into/out of UK. His first flight was delayed then it was cancelled – we all re scheduled – but that 2nd flight was again changed – so we all re scheduled AGAIN. But after many phone calls between ourselves and our colleagues EasyPet and the UK airline Handsome arrived in RoC and was transferred to us for onward TRNC entry.
He seemed very unfazed with all that had been going on behind the scenes !
His owner , Charlotte, posted onto Social Media the following
” My husband and I want to say a huge thank you to KAR Pet Travel and Easypet on the Greek side. For anyone planning to bring their pets over the service from these guys is outstanding. Whatever could go wrong, did (thanks TUI!) but Kim and Chrissie managed to keep all the stress away and calmly kept rearranging things. I would have been utterly lost without them. Happy to say our baby arrived safely last night and is currently investigating the pool 😆 Thank you !!! “
Happy TRNC Days Handsome x

MY TIME WITH KAR – JANE

” It all started about 4 years ago when I persuaded my husband that now my children were settled. I needed someone to look after. Eventually, he gave in and following a couple of trips to the KAR Rescue Centre we became the guardians of Crumpet. A Cyprus Terrier of indefinite age. It was one of the best decisions we have made. She gives us a reason to get up in the morning and makes us laugh every single day.
After visiting the centre and seeing the work that KAR does on a day to day basis. I decided to help the charity. So I started to volunteer in their Charity shop at Karakam.
I usually work one morning a week. Each day is never the same with always something to do to keep you busy. The four hours absolutely flies by.
I began with no experience of working in a charity shop. But now I can happily sort the donations which people kindly bring in. It always amazes me how generous some people are. Nothing is thrown away, if at all possible.
We are always needing donations as KAR does run 3 shops within Girne.
We stock the shop on a daily basis which is usually the first job in the morning, then customers start arriving and I personally think that is the best bit of the day. We have regular customers who have become friends who call in every week to have a ‘good rummage’ and to hopefully find a bargain.
Just before Covid struck. I also started to work with the education team. Kar as a organisation is committed to supporting the young people of the TRNC with knowledge on how to care and look after the animals of the island. Unfortunately for over 2 years we were unable to visit schools. But last month we finally were able to visit Primary schools again. It was a lovely mornings work talking to the children and hopefully giving them advice about looking after both domestic and the many Street animals.
I have also taken a small role in re-introducing students from the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and local universities who can go up to the rescue centre and complete work on a volunteering basis.
The people who work and volunteer at KAR are dedicated to improving the life of the animals on this island. They are amazing people who work hard and also like to play hard. There is always time for a joke and laugh during the day.
Over the last 4 years I have really enjoyed helping at KAR and all I can say if you are interested in volunteering. Give it ago. You never know what you can do until you try.”
Thank you Jane and everyone of our supporters and volunteers alike. The photos are some of the schools that our Education team have visited over the years.

ZIPPY

Zippy the sprightly cat traveled ino the TRNC with us recently. He is the grand age of 10 1/2 and took the travelling really well. He arrived, late at night, at his new home during a localised power cut. But that didn’t stop him exploring – he was straight out of his box checking out his new surroundings.
Mandy gave us a little update ..
” Thank you very much for delivering Zippy last night. He has wandered round, found the cool spots and settled well. Zippy tucked into his food with gusto. The power came on about 45 minutes after you left, so at least we could then see him.”
Happy TRNC Days Zippy x
