ONCE AGAIN WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP – AND EVERYONE CAN HELP WITH THIS PLEA!

We desperately need donations for our charity shops please.
Here’s the plan. Give yourself a couple of hours “you time” and set yourself up by your wardrobe together with fan/ac and a stock of black bags. Go through your wardrobe one article of clothing at a time. If it’s too big, too small. or hasn’t been worn in the last 12 months put it in a black bag. And repeat. Once you’ve been through all you clothes bring the black bags full of clothes to one of our charity shops or our office. Our Town Centre shops are open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 1pm and our Office/Gladrags is open Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm.
We also accept donations of household goods, textiles etc.
You’ll be surprised how satisfying it is!

ANIMALS NEED WATER TOO

With the hot weather, both here and in the UK, please put out some water so that animals and birds have something to drink. Also, please walk your dogs when the weather is a bit cooler – either early in the morning or later on in the evening.
Try to stay cool everyone!

SKYE

Say Hi to Skye!
This lovely, lively girl is Skye and she is now about 8 months old. She was found by a road in Girne, all on her own and very frightened. We are happy to say that she is not frightened any more and loves to run around and play (even in this heat!!)
Skye is very friendly and enjoys a fuss & cuddle from the centre staff – what she would like next in her life is a family to love her and a secure garden to run around in. It’s not much to ask for, is it?
If you are interested in Skye, please come up to our rescue centre and meet her. We are open to visitors every day between 9am and 1pm. Please share for Skye – thank you!

TEDDY

This handsome young man is Teddy and he is appealing for his forever home.
He came into the rescue centre along with his sister Tara and they still live happily together. However, Tara has been very lucky and will soon be going to live with her new family in the UK, which will leave Teddy all on his own. How sad will that be??
We would love it if Teddy could also find a home. He is just 9 months old, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. As you can see he’s not a very big dog and he just loves affection.
If you are interested in homing Teddy, then please come up to the rescue centre and meet him. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Please share for Teddy – thank you!

NEW MEMBER OF THE GLADRAGS STAFF

We have a new member of the Gladrags staff but not too sure how “useful” they’re going to be. Here they are asleep on the job!! lol

MESSAGE FROM THE NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Dear friends, members, volunteers and supporters,
Following the AGM held 6 July 2022 the new committee at KAR would like to sincerely thank Margaret Ray, Gwen Cassell Denise Aksoy Marion Clay and Senem Burkuoglu for their many years of unstinting hard work and commitment to KAR. Their dedication, combined with the contributions of so many others over the years has left a legacy that we are proud to build on.
The task ahead of the new committee is a daunting prospect because of all that has been achieved so far. It is the beginning of a new era for KAR and we hope you will join us on this journey. We will do our best to ensure that it is business as usual for all concerned, whilst we transition.
Our Centre will operate as normal and our dogs and cats will continue to receive a high level of love and care. We would welcome any questions or comments you may have.
We hope in time to build a KAR that seeks to be more inclusive of the views and opinions of all stakeholders. Please bear with us while we focus on getting to grips with the day to day running of our organisation. Once we have that under control we hope to start the wider discussion on the direction of KAR going forward with all interested parties.
Jacky Kester, Carole Hudson, Michael Prior, Lynette MacInnes, Karin Bos-Janssen and Ray Morris

IN MEMORY OF SUNNY

We recently received a very generous donation from Ann-Marie in memory of her “handsome old man Sunny who gained his angel wings last Friday at the grand old age of 17. He loved life, people and other animals “.
From this beautiful picture he certainly lived up to his name, Sunny.

A MESSAGE FROM MARGARET RAY

A message from Margaret Ray
It is with great sadness and regret that I inform you that myself and four of my colleagues feel that we have no alternative but to resign from the committee of KAR with immediate effect.
As you all know myself, and some friends, began KAR from nothing over 25 years ago and now we are leaving it with a beautiful well established animal shelter, home to over 200 dogs and cats, a fully equipped neutering clinic, thousands of pounds worth of assets in vehicles, equipment etc and a well established administration system, a healthy bank account and having cared, loved and tended thousands of animals over 25 years plus.
My colleagues, who have been great friends continue with their support , and are also retiring are:
Marian Clay (Treasurer) She has been helping KAR for 14 years. A few years ago she took over the Sponsorship project and looked after a number of collection and supermarket boxes.
Gwen Cassell (Secretary) She first volunteered at our Charity Shop 20 years ago and soon moved up to managing the shop. Over the years the number of shops increased to three. She also organized the highly successful Christmas Bazaars.
Dennise Aksoy. Who has also been helping KAR for 14 years. Managing ‘KAR Online sales’, She has sourced prices and advice of donations of value and managed House & Home shop.
Senem Burkuoglu. She has been with KAR for 8 years. She is a valued member of the shop team. She also acted as our translator and was a local media co-ordinator.
We have always been professional and, as such. leave with everything in order and with lasting memories. The knowledge, experience and qualifications in animal welfare move with us.
We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the friends we have made over the years, supporters, volunteers, veterinary personnel, officials, media and press and everyone that have supported us throughout.
Thank you.
Margaret Ray

CHESTER

Despite everyone best intentions pets travel arrangements do not always go to plan – this was certainly true for Chester and Arya.
Both dogs were awaiting their serology test results , in the UK, before travelling to the TRNC (via RoC).
Chester passed his test with flying colours but poor Arya failed hers.
Gary and Trish were not sure what to do as they needed to be out of their house as it was sold – should they stay in the UK and wait for Arya to be vaccinated and tested again or to leave her temporarily (until she passed her test) with close family, After discussions with us and our colleague in the South (Chrissie) they decided that they would come over with Chester and get settled and then wait for Arya to be able to join them.
Chester arrived just the other week and his journey was much more straightforward than poor Gary and Trish who had very long delays.
Chester was delivered to them not long after they had arrived home themselves !
Gary messaged us ..
” I tried to send you a message yesterday but I am not sure it was successful.
Trish and I would like to thank you and your teams that were responsible for transporting Chester. He arrived untramatised and in good spirits, I think he misses Arya. We were kept informed every step of the way, which was appreciated. Even with our 7 hour delay in Istanbul things worked out ok. It really meant that it was one less stress for us during what turned out to be a very complicated and stressful move. So thank you again for all your help.
Many thanks”
Hopefully it will not be long before Arya is making the same journey and they will all be re united.
Happy TRNC Days Chester x

MUTLEY

Owners are always concerned about their pets travelling and this can be more so for our elderly pets. Muttley traveled with us recently to the UK at the grand age of 13 years. En route to Ercan he was quite vocal but settled down quite quickly when we turned the radio on.
He was not at all phazed by the comings and goings at Ercan.
He arrived safe and sound, at Heathrow, and his entry checks were all completed, and he was ready to go home, by the time his owner arrived herself.
Happy UK Days Muttley xxx
