It’sssss Friday …….. here is your KAR FGF !

Nellie’s story
We were contacted last week by a lovely couple (Jenny and Richard) who were here on holiday and , 3 weeks ago, had found a very young kitten in their garden. They befriended her and fed her at regular intervals. They had noticed that her eyes were a bit sore so had been bathing them with sterilised water. She was a happy little kitten but they were so worried about what was going to happen to her when they returned to the UK.
Richard came into the KAR office with the kitten, as he was worried . who was stumbling when walking and we could immediately see that there was a problem with her eyes. KAR agreed to help her. She was seen by our vet Derya (who was downstairs neutering !) and she ws diagnosed with a serious eye infection and the little kitten had very restricted sight. None of us knew how extensive the damage was nor if it was reversable.
We explained to Rchard that we would keep her and would try to treat her problem.
We named her Nellie.
Nellie began immediate antibiotic treatment plus she was also given stem cell treatment. Blood was taken from her and spun to obtain stem cells – this was then reintroduced, daily, into her eyes. She was taken to the centre – accompanied by antibiotics and also more stem cell serum, and staff kept her in temporary quarantine.
One of our regular supporters heard about Nellie the following day and — fantastically agreed to home her if she pulled through.
On Thursday little Nellie came back to the KAR office. What a difference a week makes – she is almost back to normal and , quite obviously by the way she was chasing the toy mouse around in her playpen, her eyesight had vastly improved. Karen and Mick collected her (and her medication and her remaining stem cell serum) and took her home.
Jenny contacted us via Tripadviser to say
” i would like to thank them for taking in a kitten on Thursday 3/10/2019 that wandered into our garden while on holiday, She has several problems being under weight and also a problem with her eyes, we have looked after her for three weeks while on holiday and we didn’t want to leave her to fend for herself as we were returning home to the UK i’m happy to,say that KAR have already found a home for her and i would like to thank them with all my heart and the vet that is going to treat her eyes, carry on the good works you are all marvelous human beings xx ”
.We are sure that the future for Nellie (now renamed Martha) is looking much brighter .

World Animal Day.

The KAR Education Team were delighted to attend 23 Nisan Schools celebration of World Animal Day on 4 October.
200 children took part, and both teachers and children had worked very hard to present a true celebration of the day.

We recently received the following email from Jeremy ……………

” I first saw Sadie about November 2018. She would often hang out on the road from Acmenia heading up to what was the Black Olive. There is a builders yard there, where a lot of the workers live and sleep. There generosity helped to keep her alive.
