A ditty/poem from one of our Volunteers!!!!

A SHOP VOLUNTEER DITTY

Would you like to become a ‘dogs body’ and join the happy band of volunteers working in the KAR Shops?  They are paid no money, but every day is different!  You meet new people and something always happens which is a laugh and funny!!!!

Of course, something’s may make you want to cry, when a customer tries to return or exchange a 1 Lira dress or tie.

You’ll meet people from all over the world searching for a bargain.  It might be something personal a comb or curtain for the home.

You may sell a bed, or a hat for the head, a book, a DVD, a music centre or TV.  Something small or furniture for the hall.

Having sold a settee you deserve a coffee, or a cup of tea, which is always freely available.

In fact the KAR shops are department stores all in one, selling nearly everything under the sun.

Why do volunteers do it?  For the love and to feed the homeless animals, dogs and cats of all ages, shapes and sizes.

You will be most welcome to join this happy throng, we could do with another 10, so volunteer now and speak to Gwen.

KAR Education Team at 23 Nisan School – World Animal Day.

World Animal Day.

The KAR Education Team were delighted to attend 23 Nisan Schools celebration of World Animal Day on 4 October.
200 children took part, and both teachers and children had worked very hard to present a true celebration of the day.

This was not the only school that acknowledged the importance of the day. As well as thinking about the animals in their family, the young people have been encouraged to think about the dogs and cats that live in shelters, or try to survive on the streets. Donations were made to various animal rescue organisations.
With the number of abandoned and stray dogs and puppies, and cats and kittens, it would be easy to be cynical about about success of the Education Team.
We cannot take credit for all of the growing awareness, but we can be proud that we are part of it.

KAR Committee in Malta.

3 members of the KAR Committee are currently attending the International Companion Animal Welfare Conference this week. Last year it was held in RoC and this year it is being held in Malta. The 3 committee members, who all paid for the trip themselves, feel that it is important to keep up to date with Animal Welfare issues especially those, for example, in relation to Rescue Centres/Charity/Disease management.
They are bound to come back tired but with a much more detailed knowledge of issues that may impact on KAR. and also the cats and dogs of TRNC.
