INTRODUCING EVE

Eve was found as a puppy on a main road back in 2009 and unfortunately has been at the centre all of her life. She is now 11 years old. Eve is our official “meeter and greeter” and often accompanies dog walkers on walks. She is shy and a little nervous, and very frightened of thunder storms and shooting.

But all is not doom and gloom for Eve as ,when she is unable to cope with shelter life, Elaine, our centre manager, will be giving her her furever home!!

FREDDY

We certainly have a few characters at the centre and here’s one of them! This is Freddy (or Freddy Krueger to his friends) Freddy is a friendly little dog most of the time but he can be a bit unpredictable, which makes it difficult to find him a forever home. He likes to wave from the top of his kennel, which is really sweet to see and if he’s having a quiet day, he sits in his kennel and wants to be left alone. Freddy can be your sponsor dog, for just £10 a month – the sponsorship scheme helps us budget each month as it provides us with a much needed regular income. Please sponsor Freddy and help all the dogs & cats at the centre at the same time!

COOL, AND CALM PET TRAVEL PETS

Travelling Pets….. owners are always worried about how their pets will travel. They often worry about them much more than they do about themselves. As much as we try to reassure them (owners and pets !) it is still a stressful time.
This has been been even more so due to the imposed Co Vid restrictions here and in the UK.
Here we have been dealing with delayed or cancelled flights – restricted flight options – unsuitable aircraft – subtle changes in some of the regulations.
In the UK owners are facing, amongst other Co Vid restrictions, Tier Lockdowns – some travel restrictions into other areas – important when they are collecting their pets or they are being delivered..
All of these we are having to take into account when organising pets travel to the UK.
This week we had 3 very “Cool” customers travelling. Even we were amazed at how quickly they all settled into their boxes (which we made as comfy as possible) – they just snuggled down ready for their big adventure.
All 3 of them (Barney, Rolo and Garfield) had had several travel plans disrupted and the owners were very worried that their pets were “stuck” in the TRNC – but at last it was time for them to say Goodbye TRNC and Hello UK.
They left a warm balmy Ercan at silly o’clock on the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and arrived at a cold windy Heathrow later in the afternoon.
They were certainly “Cool calm and collected (or delivered) ” pets.
Elaine says of Barney ” Barney has settled in very well he has been no trouble at all he loves the park and lots of cuddles we both said it’s like he has been here much longer than he has!
Kay told us “Rolo’s arrived in UK, my nephew has him in the car on his way to Wales. He’s all dressed up in his Gucci coat, collar and lead….spoilt already.”
“He was cwtched (Welsh for cuddle) all way home wrapped in a warm blanket as its cold there. Even customs at Heathrow said what a calm lovely placid dog.”
Garfields “home” picture needs no words !
Happy Days for Barney, Rolo and Garfield.

NATIONAL CAT DAY 29 OCTOBER

Cats make excellent companions. They rarely miss you, but when they do, you sure know it. Awareness days such as this one urge pet lovers to adopt from a local shelter. The day also reminds us that neutering and spaying our furry companions helps reduce the abandoned population.
Shelters are full of cats and kittens in need of forever homes. These feline fur babies come with as many personalities as they do colors and coats. They curl into our hearts and will just as quickly remind us they decide who they love. Whether they were born in the shelter, surrendered or abandoned, hundreds find their way to a shelter.
Here are the musings of one of our fantastic volunteers and her cats.
“I have four KAR cats, they all came from our rescue centre, and each has his/her own personality, foibles and irritating habits. They are loved and in return they love us, I cannot imagine my life without them. Of course being in Cyprus my cat collection has grown to include another 4 (+1,more of him later) outdoor who all appeared at various stages of the time we have been here. All of them rub along together and for most of the time we have harmony here at Johnson Towers.
I had no intention of having anymore cats but life occasionally throws you a curve ball, I have just been adopted by quite a handsome, friendly male, he has clearly singled out Johnson Towers as his future abode.
Whilst fussing him, I explained to him the terms and conditions of living here…
1,Disagreements, paw waving and expression of feelings are allowed but strictly NO fighting.
2, Breakfast and dinner will be served under the pergola, snacks of biscuits are also available.
3 Winter residence is provided these are shared facilities.
4 Flea and worming treatments are mandatory. The only exception is Penny our temperamental tortie, she does NOT do humans, nor does she take kindly to any medical intervention, trust me, I bear the scars after a fraught period of gingivitis, (that’s Penny by the way not me) such is her aversion to medical treatment, one vet looks at my cat carrier and says “crazy cat?” The relief is palpable when I say no.
5 Should he fall ill, a trip to the vet in a cat carrier in the car will be the mode of transport, non negotiable. Wowing and complaining all the way there has no effect on me, but feel free to express your feelings.
6 There will be treats, and lots of love and fuss should he wish to avail himself of this.
7 Last but not least he will lose a couple of small parts of his anatomy. Again non negotiable .
Bugsy (as I have named him) appeared quite happy to agree with the terms and conditions, although he did look worried at number 7, I did explain he will have no use of them living here, he appeared to accept this.
So, all that remains is for the others to come to terms with him living with us. There has been a few choice words but no attempt at beating each other up, YET.
I shall give him a week or so to-
A)Settle in.
B) Lull him into a false sense of security as he thinks I’ve forgotten,
before he gets whisked off for his ‘little operation’..”
Our rescue centre has lots of cats and kittens (and dogs and puppies too) all waiting for their furever homes. If you have room in your heart and in your home for one of our animals please do visit the centre. They are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm. Thank you.

PLEA FOR RAFFLE PRIZES

We recently announced the cancellation of our Christmas Bazaar however our Christmas Raffle will still go ahead. We need to compensate for the loss of income the Christmas Bazaar usually generates so, bearing this in mind, we are looking to our wonderful supporters for donations of raffle prizes please. Bottles, hampers, luxury goods, unusual gifts, anything that will help us sell more tickets would all be gratefully received at our main office in Karakum, Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm. The raffle will be drawn on 12 December at the KAR Office, Karakum. Thank you so much for your continued support.

THANK YOU THE LODGE, CATALKOY, CARD BINGO PLAYERS

Once again the fabulous customers of The Lodge in Catalkoy have come up trumps with a very kind donation from their Card Bingo Players. Without donations such as yours we would not be able to look after as many sick and vulnerable animals as we do, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

THANK YOU LUDOMIL GECI

A very big thank you to Ludomil Geci for your recent, very kind and generous donation. Without donations such as yours we would not be able to care for as many sick and vulnerable animals as we do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

KAR Cat Neutering – Update

The KAR cat neutering program is continuing to neuter street cats in the TRNC. Every week our dedicated vets, assistants and cat team – as well as members of the public, collect cats for neutering.
We do ask, wherever possible, for a donation to help with the costs. The suggested donation amount has not changed since we began our clinic program. Donations help towards the costs of the medicines used for the operation as well as long term antibiotics, internal parasite treatment etc. given whilst the cat is in the KAR clinic.
Sadly due to rising costs of the medicines, cleaning and veterinary products and the falling TL – in order for us to continue with this very valued program – we will be having to ask for a higher minimum donation – 80TL.
We do hope that you understand.
Please – continue to help us to help them.
