HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR CENTRE MANAGER, ELAINE

Wishing you a very happy birthday Elaine with lots of love from Team KAR and from all the lucky furbabies who have (or have had) you caring for them at some point in their lives. There are no words to describe your love, commitment and dedication to all the animals.

THANK YOU KYRENIA AMATEUR DRAMATICS SOCIETY (KADS)

Thank you to KADs for choosing us once again as one of their chosen charities to benefit from funds they have made from their plays and performances during 2020. We are very grateful for the donation of medicines to the value of 2,000 TL for use with the dogs and cats in our care. Thank you to them all for their continued support and we look forward to seeing more of their performances throughout 2021.

THANK YOU TO THE TURK BIKERS NORTH CYPRUS

We had an exciting visit to the centre last Sunday from members of the Turk Bikers North Cyprus. They brought with them an amazing donation of bags and bags of food for the animals and a generous cash donation too. It was great to see you all and thank you so much.

HAS SANTA BEEN AND BROUGHT YOU A SHINY NEW PC FOR CHRISTMAS?

Don’t know what to do with the old one? Or maybe you have one you don’t use as you have a laptop, tablet or phone instead?
Our Rescue Centre PC has been poorly for sometime now, and unfortunately it finally gave up over Christmas. We desperately need a new (to us) PC to enable us to keep the relevant records up to date and ensure the smooth running of the Rescue Centre. With all the problems Covid has brought with it we just do not have the cash to buy a new one!
If you have one that will help us please will you either take it into our office in Karakum (Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm – but not New Years Day) or into the Rescue Centre (7 days a week 9am to 1pm including New Years Day).
Thank you so much.

2020 – A BRIEF RESUME

Hello everyone and a Merry Christmas to you all
We just thought that we would let you know how we are surviving in this new world we are living in during the Covid 19 pandemic.
As the TRNC is an island the lockdown arrangements that were put in place early have managed to keep all of our staff and volunteers safe from the virus.
However it meant that there have been no visitors or tourists which, as you can imagine, has had a tremendous impact on KAR. No food from hotels and restaurants, no visitors bringing donations or walking dogs etc, no money in our collection boxes, all of fundraising events cancelled etc.
All of this whilst we were all also worrying about family and friends near and far.
We re-opened our charity shops with much reduced opening hours in June under the new covid regulations. Gone (hopefully not forever!) are the days of happy smiling faces of customers calling in for bargains and a chat. Instead we are all masked up like Batman’s Babes!!! But we, and our customers (like you we expect) are making the best of a bad situation.
As if we were not struggling enough at the beginning of October vets fees were increased once again by over 30% along with other increases in pet food, medical supplies, cleaning materials etc. We can ignore (quite happily at times!”) the housework at home but not up at the Centre – cleanliness is so important in disease control.
Our annual Christmas Bazaar was cancelled ( At least Father Christmas got to have the day off! !!) and plans were put in place to hold mini Christmas Bazaars and open a Christmas shop to try to overcome the loss of funds. Christmas/New Year dinners for the dogs and cats at our shelter at £5 each went on sale – we cannot promise Turkey and all the trimmings but it is nice for them to have a treat – if you would like to purchase a dinner for one of our cats/dogs please use “Dinner” as a reference when paying any monies into our account.
Elaine and the staff at the centre have been producing regular videos of dogs and cats that are waiting for new forever homes particularly introducing some of our elderly inmates that have been in our care for many years. Just like us – they want a nice quiet happy loving place to spend their twighlight years. These “oldies” have been shown on our Face book page and Website..
Whilst there have been no visitors to help with any building and repair work at the centre members of the staff have been busy concreting compounds, laying drainage ready for the rain water that pours down the mountain during the winter months and replacing damaged and chewed wooden kennels using second hand pallets. Thank goodness for the “men – and women – who can “ And DO !
Fold up beds and camping equipment is now kept in readiness up at the Center – not for sneaky naps – but in the event of any new lockdown regulations.
As we approach the end of this unprecedented year we want to thank you all for your fantastic help with donations and lovely words of support. Please keep it coming as you are the reason that we are able to continue to do what we do and thank you for helping us to help all of the wonderful dogs and cats.
Please stay safe. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and we hope that we will all be looking forward to a much better 2021.
The pictures are of just some of our very lucky adopted ones (apologies if your “furbaby” is not on this selection but there are so many that we cannot include them all) – they, and their TRNC friends, are the reason Team KAR continues to care.

Love from us all at K.A.R

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THANK YOU

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR LOYAL VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS. Without your continued dedication to Kyrenia Animal Rescue we would not be able to care for as many vulnerable animals as we do. 2020 has been unprecedented in so many ways but you have all rallied together, in so many different ways, to ensure the animals in the centre do not suffer You are all wonderful people and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

DONNA DELLA AND DIXIE

These 3 beauties are Donna, Della & Dixie, sisters who were dumped on the rubbish pile at the centre earlier this year. How anyone could just discard them is totally beyond our comprehension!! There were in fact 4 of them but the other sibling was lucky and found a forever home. As you can see they are all very friendly and love attention. They are well cared for at the centre but a home would be even better! If you are interested in offering one of them a home then please come to the centre to meet them – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Even if you can’t give them a home, you can sponsor one of them for just £10 a month, please e-mail us -kartrnc@gmail.com – if you would like to help. Thanks for watching!

SIDNEY AND NAOMI

Let us introduce you to Sidney & Naomi. Naomi (black & tan) was dumped over a fence at the centre during 2018, she was in really poor condition – very skinny and uncared for. Just look at her now with her beautiful shiny coat! The lively lad is Sidney (black & white) who came to the centre as a puppy towards the end of 2018 along with his sister Sylvie. Both are still young but each would love a forever home. As you can see they are really friendly dogs who would make a great companion for someone. If you are interested in one of them, please come to the centre to meet them – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.

CHARLIE, HAMISH AND KITTY

Last week we had the pleasure of helping Charlie, Hamish and Kitty relocate to Scotland. Theirs had been an on/off/on planning exercise due to , as often happens in TRNC, changes in circumstances, house sales, flight availability etc. But last week the 3 cats flew to Edinburgh (via Istanbul) and after completing their entry checks they happily went home with their owners to Hairmyres in Scotland.
Lets hope that they have time to acclimatise before the Scottish Snow arrives.
Happy Days Charlie, Hamish and Kitty.
