INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS

20 March is the International Day of Happiness and we thought you might like to see what happiness at KAR looks like. In the last few months (bearing in mind we’ve had a lockdown) we have re-homed a fabulous 14 animals and are so pleased and happy for our animals and their new owners. Here are just a few photos of KAR Happiness.
We still have plenty more dogs and cats in our Rescue Centre all waiting for their happy furever homes. If you are looking to re-home one of our beautiful animals please contact our office on 05338694098 (Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm) and they will arrange with the Rescue Centre for you to visit them. Unfortunately we are not open to the public yet but we can see people for re-homing purposes on an appointment basis.

23 MARCH – NATIONAL PUPPY AND CUDDLY KITTEN DAY

We never really need a reason to cuddle a puppy or a kitten but today is actually the National Puppy and Cuddly Kitten day so give your 4-legged baby an extra dose of cuddles on this very happy day!
Some interesting facts about puppies:
Puppies are born blind and deaf
They spend 15–20 hours a day sleeping
Puppies become ‘adults’ when they turn one
They like when you sing-talk to them
Puppies are born without teeth
The number of puppies depends on the breed
Puppies can be twins!
Newborn puppies can’t poop
Some interesting facts about kittens:
Kittens are fragile and need help using the potty.
Kittens are born with closed eyes.
Kittens are born with blue eyes.
Kittens have superior senses.
Kittens see differently than humans.
Kittens are super easy to potty train.
Kittens knead.
KITTENS CAN HAVE KITTENS!!!!
So go on, give your furbabies that extra cuddle today!!

URGENT REQUEST FOR HELP PLEASE

KAR takes the health and well-being of the animals in the rescue centre very seriously. They are all neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinations are kept up to date. This keeps them healthy when they are with us and saves an expensive vet bill for the new owners when they are re-homed.
We have had a very large vet bill for vaccinations for some of the animals at the centre and, to be perfectly honest, we are going to struggle to pay it. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions on our charity shops and fund raising events, and the lack of tourists, we do not have the income we have previously had.
The bill is for 9610 Turkish Lira which is very nearly £900 sterling.

ATLAS

A couple of weeks ago we shared a fabulous video of 3 of the puppies we have at the centre. They were charging around and having lots of fun but in desperate need of their furever home. Well, it was good news this week for puppy Atlas as he was re-homed with his new owner Erol last Tuesday. One very happy puppy but the remaining 2 are still looking for their furever homes.

WILF

Hello, my name is Wilf and I am18 months old. I was 1 of 7 pups that arrived at the centre with our mum when we were just 1 day old. I’m a very friendly boy and I love a good walk.

HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY

Not wanting to be left out of special occasions we thought we’d share with you our very own Patrick (actually he’s called Paddy but we’re all allowed a bit of poetic licence now and then)
Paddy came into our rescue centre in February 2013 with two siblings both of whom sadly died. He is a friendly, loving and energetic boy who loves lots of attention. He is currently living with his kennel mate Jenny.
If you have room in your heart and in your home for Paddy please email our office on kartrnc@gmail.com. Hopefully with the easing of restrictions it won’t be too much longer before we can re-open the rescue centre and you can come along and see all our beautiful animals all waiting for their furever homes.

IVY

Meet Ivy. She was found in the mountains back in December, we can only assume she was unwanted, so dumped. Ivy is about 1.5 years old, a lively girl and as you can see, she has a fine set of floppy ears! She would love a garden to run around in and explore to her heart’s content. All our centre dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered (when they are old enough) If you would like to give Ivy a home, please contact us and we will arrange for you to meet her once the centre is open again. Or you can sponsor Ivy for £10 per month – our sponsorship scheme provides us with a regular income – even more important to us whilst our shops are closed due to lockdown. Please share for Ivy and let’s find her a forever home!

PUPPIES

It’s puppy time! Don’t we all just love a cute puppy and here’s 3 just waiting for their forever homes. They are now about 3.5 months old, vaccinated and ready to go! As you can see they love to run around and play, they are having so much fun. What they would like even more is a garden so they can charge around and work off some of that excess energy!! Once the centre opens again, please come and see them – we really don’t want them to spend their whole lives in a rescue centre, despite how much we love them.

MARAS

This handsome boy is Maraş, who was found by another animal rescue group. They asked for our help as he had a broken back foot, so he came to stay with us and his foot is now healing nicely. He is about 8 years old, very friendly and as you can see, he doesn’t mind being sniffed by Evie – our resident photo-bomber! He has probably been on the streets for his whole life so it would be fantastic if he could spend his senior years in a home of his own. Please come and see him once the centre is open again – we will of course be making an announcement when we can allow visitors again. Please share for Maraş!

AN ODE TO OUR CHARITY SHOP VOLUNTEERS (written by our budding poetess JW – Shop Volunteer)
It’s half past nine, We turn the sign -‘open’
We are open for sales,
Whether or not there are gales.
It’s a great place to make friends,
And we try to set trends,
Displaying clothes in a fashionable way…
And hoping the customers will pay
Oh, here’s a donation, we need to sort,
We thank the kind person the way we are taught,
There are items for the centre….
And items for the rails,
We all hope today we’ll have good sales.
Did I hear some one say ‘coffee’?
We always welcome a drink,
We take a few minutes giving us time to think.
Within the shop, you become part of the team,
As looking after hundreds of dogs is not just a dream.
How time has flown it’s almost 1,
We cash up the money to see how we’ve done.
We say our goodbyes and smile as we leave.
We have had some fun
And now it’s time for some sun.
Don’t forget to turn the sign… ‘closed’
KAR are always looking for additional volunteers for their Charity Shops. There are 3 shops in total. Gladrags is situated in Karakum, on the main road out of Kyrenia, together with our office. The other 2, Shop 1 and House and Home, are behind the fire station in the centre of Kyrenia. Due to Covid restrictions they are all currently closed but once the restrictions have been lifted they will re-open. The opening hours depend on what the government will allow AND the number of volunteers we have. There have been times when KAR have had to close a shop because there was no-one to man it! The Charity Shops are one of our main sources of income to pay for the food and medications needed by our rescue centre, that’s how important they and our shop volunteers are!
If you would like to volunteer in one of our shops it doesn’t need to be a huge commitment. 3.5 hours a week would be great, any more would be fantastic. Please e-mail the office on kartrnc@gmail.com and we will contact you once we are open again.
