A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR FRIENDS, SUPPORTERS AND FOLLOWERS

Once again our fabulous friends, supporters and followers have come up trumps.
Last week we asked for donations towards a very large vet bill that, due to the knock on effect of Covid-19, we would have found near enough impossible to pay. We are so pleased to announce that we are now in a position to pay the vet bill and will be doing so before the end of the week.
OUR HEARTFELT THANK YOU GOES OUT TO EVERYONE WHO VERY KINDLY DONATED FROM ALL YOUR 2 LEGGED AND 4 LEGGED FRIENDS AT KAR. WE ARE HUMBLED BY YOUR GENEROSITY.

WAFFLE

Are you looking for a quiet, older dog but one who still loves playing and going for walks? Then perhaps Waffle is the dog for you! She has been with us for 7 years now, after being dumped when she was less than a year old. Waffle gets on well with other dogs, enjoys her walks and also loves a bit of sunbathing when it’s not too hot! As with all our adult dogs she is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Even if you can’t offer Waffle a home, then perhaps consider sponsoring her for £10 a month. Please share for Waffle so that we can find her a forever home – thank you for watching!

STACEY

Good news from the rescue centre yesterday. Here is a photo of Stacey with their new owner on their way to their new furever home. Stacey had been with us since 2017 when they came to the shelter as a puppy. Here’s to your happy ever after Stacey.

SHADOW

This is Shadow. Isn’t she gorgeous! Just look at those eyes! Shadow was one of a litter of tiny kittens dumped at the rescue centre. She was adopted quite quickly BUT due to no fault of her own finds herself back at the rescue centre urgently needing a furever home. Do you have room in your heart and in your home for the beautiful Shadow? As with all our animals Shadow is micro-chipped and vaccinated and is to be neutered as soon as we can get her into the vets. If you want to know more about re-homing Shadow please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com and they will arrange an appointment with the rescue centre for you to visit Shadow.

MARCH 28 – INTERNATIONAL RESPECT YOUR CAT DAY

While we’re positive you respect your cat on a daily basis, there is actually a special holiday to honor our cats. That means on this particular day, you should make sure to show your feline extra love. Whether it’s giving your kitty a few extra treats or a few extra pets, there are plenty of simple ways to respect your cat. However, while these are great ways to honor your cat, respecting your cat goes much further. You also have to know how to properly take care of them and how they’d like to be treated, handled, and held. Innocent things, such as feeding your cat too much food, holding your cat in a way that makes them feel unsafe, and even petting your cat in a way that annoys them, can come across as disrespectful to cats. Here are some tips that will improve your relationship with your cat so your they’ll truly know you respect them on Respect Your Cat Day.
1. Pet Your Cat The Right Way – research says that cats like it best when you pet their head and neck region, while it is best to stay away from their belly.
2. Learn How To Hold A Cat – The right way to hold a cat may seem fairly obvious, however, the more of a cat’s body is touching you, the more comfortable they will feel. It’s best to keep them close to your body so they feel more secure.
3. Maintain Your Cat’s Coat – Brushing is a significant part of owning a cat. It keeps their coat healthy, thus helping to keep your cat healthy overall.
4. Make Sure Your Cat Isn’t Bored – Cats need attention just like any other pet. If you are busy throughout the day, there are some great toys that can keep your cat’s attention without you having to give it to them 24/7.
5. Understand Cat Body Language – Part of respecting your cat is knowing how to understand your cat’s body language. Knowing what basic body movements mean can improve your relationship with them. For example, knowing the difference between aggression and fear is very important.

OUR RESCUE CENTRE IS NOW OPEN FOR VISITORS

We are so happy to finally announce that the Rescue Centre can now re-open to visitors. You can find us in the Besparmak Mountains above Arapkoy and we are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm. We ask you to sign in, take your temperature and hand sanitize not forgetting social distancing and to wear your masks at all times. We also ask that children are kept with you at all times.
So now that the weather appears to be picking up come along and spend some time with us in the fresh air up in the mountains maybe walking one (or more) of our dogs or just giving them even more love and attention than they already get from the centre staff and volunteers. Any donations you bring along with you will be gratefully received.

ROOBARB & CUSTARD

Here are Roobarb (boy) & Custard (girl), siblings who will be 2 years old in July. They were very poorly when they first came into the centre but as you can see, they are now the picture of health! Both of them are very friendly and love to play, a big garden would be just heaven for them. If you are interested in offering one (or both!) of them a home, then please get in touch with us and we can arrange for you to meet them. Please note that all our dogs are at our rescue centre in North Cyprus.

MESSAGE FROM ELAINE

A number of the videos we have posted recently are of dogs that have lived at the centre for many years. The main reason for this is very simple – there are too many stray dogs and unwanted puppies in North Cyprus and not enough forever homes to go round. However, that does not mean that a dog who has spent most of it’s life at the rescue centre is institutionalised and won’t settle into a home. We find that most dogs that are homed settle really well, it’s almost like they are grateful to finally have a home of their own! Here’s Elaine our centre supervisor with Evie, who has been at the centre for 12 years but who spends many an evening relaxing by the fire. Please listen to what she has to say about homing a long-term centre resident, the video cuts off a bit at the end but what Elaine was going to say was that she is always on the end of a phone to help new owners if they have any concerns about their newly rescued four-legged friend. So don’t be put off about homing one of our beautiful dogs, it could be the best decision you have ever made!

PUPPIES HERE, PUPPIES THERE, PUPPIES EVERYWHERE

It’s puppy time! Meet Milo, Milly & Macey who were dumped at the centre a few weeks ago. As you can see, they are all very lively and just love to play. We’re not sure what Milo thinks of his rather ill-fitting bow tie, but we’re sure he didn’t keep it on for long!! They have had their first vaccinations and as you can see, all 3 are in the peak of health! If you are interested in offering one of them a home, then please e-mail our office – kartrnc@gmail.com – and they can arrange for you to meet them. Please share for Milo, Milly & Macey as we really don’t want them to spend their lives at the centre, despite the excellent care they get from the centre staff and volunteers.
