GERRY

This gorgeous pup is Gerry and he is looking for his forever home.
He is one of the G litter that we posted recently but unfortunately there hasn’t been any interest in him. It would be so sad if he spent the rest of his life at our rescue centre in North Cyprus, despite the love and care he gets from the staff and volunteers.
Gerry is now about 6 months old, very friendly and full of energy. A big secure garden would be perfect for him so he can run around and investigate all the lovely smells. He would have a fantastic time!
If you have room in your life for young Gerry, then please come up to the centre and meet him – we are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Thank you for watching and please share for Gerry!

MEET THE HUHUAHUA’S

Here are our latest litter of cute puppies looking for a home. Meet the Huhuahua’s!
We think they are a cross between a husky and a chihuahua and as you can see, they are very very cute!
Two of the litter of 5 have been very lucky and found a home, so we have 3 left. They are Gucci, a little shy girl, Gizmo, a very handsome boy and Darby, a very pretty girl!
The pups are microchipped and vaccinated and now need a forever home. If you would like to come up to the rescue centre to see them, you will be most welcome. The centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm.

KAR PET TRAVEL UPDATE

Although the TRNC is seeing fewer tourists this year (due to Co vid restrictions) it doesn’t appear to be seeing any reduction in the number of pets coming in or going out !
Over the last 10 days KAR Pet Travel has been really busy – in addition to phone. email enquiries and requests for advise and people wanting to book with us – we have also arranged (paperwork and/or actual travel) for 15 dogs in the last 10 days.
5 came in from the UK – 2 came in from Egypt. 2 went to the UK. 4 to Germany, 1 to Holland and 1 to Mexico.
5 of these were our Center dogs – traveling to their new homes.
So now it is Sunday and that is a rest day …. isn’t it??? !!!

HELP

As you’ve seen in our recent posts our Rescue Centre is being taken over by puppies! That means we are going through so much newspaper at the moment that we have all but run out. If you have any old newspapers hanging around please can we have them? You can drop them off at our office in Karakum (Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm), any of our 3 shops (Monday to Friday 10am to 1pm) or take them direct to the centre (7 days a week 9am to 1pm) and why not visit the dogs and cats while you are there!
Thanking you all for your continued support

KNIGHT

Knight says “Good morning!”
This noble young man has been at our rescue centre in North Cyprus for 5 years – almost all of his life. He was brought in along with his sister back in 2016 when they were very small puppies.
She was a lucky girl and found her forever home, unfortunately Knight was left behind. But he has gallantly soldiered on with life, enjoying his walks (when it’s not too hot) and playing with his kennel mates. What would be even better for him is a home of his own.
As with all our adult dogs, Knight is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. If you are interested in offering him a home then please come up to the rescue centre and meet him. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Please share for Knight and let’s find him the forever home he so richly deserves.

SIMPLE THINGS TO DONATE TO AN ANIMAL SHELTER

If you love animals and want to help out the local animal shelter but you can’t adopt a pet, volunteer, or donate money, there are always item donations. Item donations make a huge difference for the live of the animals at the shelter and the lives of the ones who run it. Don’t know what to donate? Don’t worry; here at 20 simple items you can donate to help out. 🛒🐾❤️🐾🛒
1. Pet food and treats– A lot of the shelter’s money goes towards buying food. Think about how many animals there are to feed there. You can really help them out by bringing in a few cans or bag of food. It goes a long way. Search online for coupons so you can get a good deal.
2. Towels and blankets– Shelters are often cold and animals like to have a blanket to curl up on. Towels are a big help to dry animals off after being bathed or if they come in wet. Towels can also be used to line the bottoms of cages. The towels or blankets don’t have to be brand new or in perfect condition. The animals won’t mind., as long as they’re usable.
3. Kitty litter and cat boxes– Cats go to the bathroom- a lot. Shelters are constantly using bag after bag of litter. Their supply runs out fast.
4. Puppy or kitten formula and nursing bottles– Sometimes there are situations where a young puppy or kitten who is not weaned gets separated from their mother. In these situations they need puppy or kitten formula to survive.
5. Old newspaper– When you’re done with your newspapers you usually just throw them away or recycle them, right? You could help animals at no cost to you if you just save up your old newspapers. Newspapers are used in the bottoms of cages. They get soiled quickly, so they’re in constant demand.
6. Collars, harnesses, and leashes– Dogs who are taken out on walks need a leash and collar or harness. The shelter loses some because adopted dogs often go home with their leash or harness.
7. Grooming supplies– Grooming supplies can include shampoo, brushes, combs, haircutting scissors, etc. Dogs and cats often come in dirty or end up getting dirty. Grooming supplies can keep them fresh, clean, and adoptable.
8. Toys– You would get bored if you had to lay in a crate alone all day, wouldn’t you? Animals in shelters get bored, too. It keeps the animals from being so lonely and bored and allows them to get exercise. You could go out and buy new toys, or you could donate toys your pets or children may have not gotten much use out of. It’s as simple as that.
9. Crates and carriers– Animals need to be transported somehow, and the cost of multiple crates and carriers can add up quickly. You can donate ones you stopped using that are still in good condition or you could go buy one for a decent price. This helps the shelter tremendously.
10. Paper towels and cleaning supplies– There are a lot of situations that get messy, so paper towels are a big help.
11. Hand wash and hand sanitizer– People who work at shelters need to keep their hands clean for their and the animals’ health.
12. Laundry detergent, fabric softener, and bleach– Towels and blankets get soiled often so the washing machines are being used a lot.
13. Dog and cat beds and dog houses– this can offer the animals a soft place to lay instead of a kennel or cage floor.
14. Flea and tick treatment– A lot of animals go through the shelters and they often have fleas or ticks.
15. Heating pads– Many animals come in cold or are young and need warmth. Heating pads can replace a mother’s warmth.
16. Copy paper and pens, pencils, post-it notes and staples– You can’t forget about all the paperwork that has to be done. Donating these items makes it so the shelter doesn’t have to buy them on their own.
17. Garbage bags, mops, brooms, and sponges– The shelter uses these every day and clean up supplies can get expensive.
18. Food bowls– As new animals come in, the shelter needs new places to put food. Having an adequate supply could mean life or death for an animal in a shelter.
19. Rubber and latex gloves– A lot of messy stuff happens and gloves are necessary to lessen the spread of germs.
20. Plastic shopping bags– Plastic bags can be used to clean up dog mess and to store things in.

HANDAN’S TALE – EPISODE 3

Opening scene …….. It’s an elegant house set high on a hill – guests are in their finery, evening dresses and dinner suits, mingling around the chandeliered dining room, chatting, glancing at the table set for a sumptuous dinner, sipping champagne. Handan is holding court – with a beautiful pink sparkly jewelled necklace – she has her “admirers” surrounding her.
REALITY Check —- it is hot hot hot sticky sticky. It is so quiet at the KAR center – it is too hot for the dogs to do very much at all. Only a few visitors have been up to see them – everywhere in TRNC is just too hot to do anything. The dogs are mostly lying in a shady spot – getting up just for a drink to try and keep cool.
The elegant compound on top of hill (where the KAR Center is) has the Des Res address of Doggy Avenue 1
“ Look”, Handan mutters quite indignantly, “I am telling you the truth – you all know I don’t tell lies. Oh well ok maybe just sometimes – like when I pinched your sock toy and chewed it up Trev – well when a Gal is bored she is bored what is she suppose to do ? . I did apologise. But I am telling the truth”
Abby and Trev looked at her somewhat disbelievingly.
“I am leaving – I am going to a place called UK and Hertfordshire – whoa hang on a mo!!! I have to give away some of my blood soon ……will I have to give away my heart … is that why it’s called Hertfordshire. Oh no surely not. That cannot be right “Handan shakes her head but a worried look creeps into her eyes.
“I don’t know when I am going but I am told it might just be in time for Christmas. I like Christmas – we get presents each and the “production crew” has a BBQ and are all extra happy. I hope I can take some presents with me…..will my new family have a BBQ at Christmas and will they be extra happy? “
Abby and Trev are not quite sure if Handan is happy or sad – so they do what all good roommates (and friends do) they get closer to Handan to reassure her that it will all be ok. The “production crew” would only EVER do what is best for all of them – they know that and Handan does deep down too.
All of a sudden there is one bark then another and before long dogs are running here there and everywhere – up and down their compounds.
“Fantastic – its food time” yells Trev, Abby and Handan (plus 237 others!). The “production crew” each arrive in to the compounds bearing gifts of FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD.
“Fantastic grubs up “yells Handan – forgetting her manners for a sec! – “I LOVE CONCOCTION MIXTURE it is my FAVOURITE….it’s a different recipe now that the schools and colleges etc don;t give us their left overs – but it is still GAWGOUS. I hope they have CONCOCTION MIXTURE in Hertfordshire “
After 5 mins of vigorous enthusiastic eating – the dogs have a drink and settle down for their post lunch nap in the shade.
Closing scene —- Handan wanders over to her favorite corner, scuffs up the ground a little and lies down. “ Do you know what – I think I AM going to give up my heart – I think will give it to my new family Lisa and Mark – they even have 2 roommates for me called Fizzy and Scooter and I can tell them all about my mates Abby and Trev………….. I am getting ready even now – I can feel that they already have a little bit of my heart. It can’t be that bad can it – giving up your heart?”
A dreamy look comes over her face as she settles down to sleep.

CHILLI

This handsome young man is Chilli. He is one of the C litter that we posted recently on Facebook and he is still looking for his forever home.
Chilli is now about 4 months old and by the looks of those ears, he’s got some German Shepherd in his DNA! As you can see he is a very friendly boy and he just loves everyone he meets.
He is microchipped and vaccinated, all he needs now is a home of his own!
If you would like to meet Chilli, then please come up to the rescue centre where he will be delighted to see you! Opening hours are between 9am and 1pm every day.

H E L P !!!!!

H E L P !!!
Once again we are sending a plea for help out to our wonderful friends and supporters.
Both of the washing machines we use 3 or 4 times a day EVERY day have broken and that leaves us with NONE. They are used to wash towels and cat and dog bedding (but not puppy or quarantine animals – that gets destroyed for obvious reasons) and with 300+ animals in our care that’s a lot of towels and bedding!
Does anyone in TRNC have a good working order washing machine (preferably large load 7 or 8 kg) that they no longer want or use please? We can arrange pick up.
Thanking you all once again for your support.

GINGER CAT APPRECIATION DAY – 1 SEPTEMBER

There’s nothing quite like having a furry footed feline friend bombing around the house and being the best buddy a person can ask for.
Dogs may be man’s best friend for some, but cats are our bosom companions, even if they can be aloof and contrary. For many people, that just makes them that much more interesting!
And the best of all cats? While admittedly I’m biased, many people would say that the best cats are the orange furred balls of love that are Ginger Cats.
Ginger Cat Appreciation Day is here!
Please let me introduce our 4 gorgeous ginger cats who currently live at our Rescue Centre. We have Beko (ginger and white with fabulous green eyes), Godfrey (ginger and white relaxing in the shade), Nelly (ginger and white who sadly only has 1 eye) and Simba (all ginger having a chill in the sun)
All our animals at our Rescue Centre are available for adoption. If you have room in your hearts and in your home for one of these fantastic felines or any of our other cats and dogs please do visit our Rescue Centre. They are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm.
