NIKITA

Today we would like to introduce you to Nikita.
This sweet girl was thrown out of a car when she was just a young puppy – what an awful start in life she had. Thankfully that horrible experience didn’t stop her becoming the loving, friendly dog she has grown up to be.
Nikita is now 4 years old and would really love a home of her own. She loves to play, enjoys her walks and is rather partial to a cuddle!
As with all our adult dogs, she is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. If you are interested in offering Nikita a home, then please come up to the rescue centre and meet her for yourself. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm. Please, please share for Nikita!

Reality check ……. the heating is on, so too is the tv, The Xmas decorations are up and the house is warm and cosy. The guests have eaten very well and are all settling down for an ” post dinner” snooze.
” Hi,
Handan has arrived. We are thrilled. Of course – I did all the emailing and worrying etc and of course …she’s an instant daddy’s girl! Typical! 🙂
She’s sniffing everything and keeps pitter pattering up and down the stairs. She absolutely loves watching TV. She’s been staring for about half an hour with her ears going up and down. She’s very into current affairs it seems!
She is absolutely stunning – even the staff at the Heathrow ARC commented how beautiful she is.
Thank you for taking care of her for all these years, I’m so grateful. We promise to spoil her lots and lots,
I’ll update again soon,
Lisa, Mark, Fozzy, Scooter and Handan xxx “
Just before she drops off to sleep Handan looks out at the night sky. High above stars are twinkling. ” I wonder if they can see these stars back at the KAR Center” thinks Handan. ” I remember way way back – in the heat of the Cyprus summers – lying on top of my kennel where it was a bit cooler – looking at the stars and making my wishes. Oh how hard i wished. And now all of my wishes have come true so there is nothing left for me to wish for.”
“Oh yes there is !!”
Handan sits up and looks solemnly up at the stars searching for the brightest one. Once it is in her sight she holds her breath and makes her wish — “Please please let my KAR friends be as lucky as me – let their future furever familes find them and bring them home. It doesn’t even have to be Hertfordshire – just a family and a home of their own”
Handan breathes out after she has made her wish – looks around at HER family and with a contented sigh she settles down to sleep – a dreamy look across her face.

SAY HELLO TO JAGGER

A couple of weeks ago we posted a video of him playing with his kitten friends Deniz, Loki and Bugsy but we thought this video of him on his own was too cute not to share. He is only 9 weeks (ish) old and such a cutie, always wanting to play, and super friendly. He has had his first vaccinations and KAR will pay for him to be neutered once he is old enough.
It would be such a shame if the only life he ever knew was at the Rescue Centre. Rescue Centres are not meant to be permanent homes for any animal. It’s getting really quite chilly up in the mountains now and the rains have started too. All animals need a home and family of their own with people around them to shower them with warmth, love and care. We do our very best at our Rescue Centre but with over 300 animals currently in our care we have our hands full.
If you would like to adopt Jagger (or any of our animals) please do pop into the Rescue Centre to meet our animals and decide which is the one for you. The Centre is open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm and you are guarateed a very warm woofy welcome!

HANDAN’S TAKE – EPISODE 6

Opening scene – uniformed staff are bringing out cases, trunks and trolleys of covered evening wear. Guests have finished their scrumptious full English and are hugging and air kissing each other on the steps “See you next time Dahlink” “Wonderful such wonderful fun” “Missing you already”….
Reality check
Up in Doggy Ave no 1
Handan feels that there is something in the air – she sniffs expectantly – no it is not food but most definitely something. Abby and Trev can sniff it too.
“What is going on Handan ?” they ask rather excitedly “Are we having visitors today to take us out ?”
Handan, with a shake of her newly coiffed hair, knowingly looks at them and announces “It is today – today is the day that i am leaving for the UK”
Abby and Trev don’t know how to react – they are happy for Handan but will miss her and her funny ways too. But they put on their “happy” face and run around barking with glee.
A fleeting look of doubt crosses over Handan’s face…. “Oh what is going to happen to me – will this “plane” be comfy – will i be safe – will my heart fit in with Hertfordshire”
With a quick shake (of her newly coiffed hair) Handan begins to get her box ready. They have told her that she has a box to travel in – but she wants to take her own box. Her memory box. Full of things to remind her of her KAR family – images of Abby and Trev – the smells of the forest especially after the rain when the sun comes back out, images (and smells !) of Elaine, David, Anthony, Yulihan, Julie, Jacky, Ian, Sue and all of the other wonderful people in the KAR family, the sound of the cicada, a picture of her kennel where she has been so happy……. There are so many memories Handan is worried that she will not have room for all of them – but she does. They are all packed away in her “memory box” to take to Hertfordshire with her.
With much barking farewells it is time for Handan to leave – before getting into her travel box she takes one last lingering look back at her KAR “family”.
With a shake (of her newly coiffed hair) and a shimmy she gets into her box. She calls out to Abby and Trev “I am going to miss you both – take care and keep practising for when it is your turn……….Goodbyeeeeeeee”
And away she goes – to her new life, in a new Country with a new family.
Closing scene ……..Handan is quite happy in her box waiting for her flight at the airport. She settles down on her comfy blanket and a little worried look passes across her eyes. This is the time – one of the times she thinks – that she can open her memory box and look back on her memories and feel comforted by them
A little shake of her head (and newly coiffed hair) “Oh i wonder if they will let me make a new memory box in Hertfordhsire – i do hope so “

LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT PC

Once again we are asking our valued supporters and friends if anyone has a PC they no longer use that they would like to donate to us please? We understand that PCs in the home are now few and far between as everyone seems to have Laptops and Tablets but maybe someone has one stored away they don’t use anymore because they now have a Laptop or Tablet? We do not have the funds to purchase even a 2nd hand one and would be so grateful if anyone has one we could have please. Please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com or 0533 869 4098 (Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm) if you are in a position to help us. Thank you.  Photo is for illustration purposes only

BUTTONS UPDATE

Buttons’ external wounds continue to heal well. There is some fluffy fur growing back on his ears and his nose is progressing in the right direction.
However, due to him not receiving any treatment for Leishmania and Ehrlichia until we rescued him this has had a devastating effect on his spleen. After yet another visit to the vet this week it has been decided that the only way forward would be to operate to remove his spleen. Now as you can imagine this is not cheap but we are committed to giving all our animals the best care we can and our vet has said this will give him a much better quality of life, extend his life or maybe even save his life. We will update you again after his operation.
In the meantime here are some recent photos of Buttons enjoying the sunshine.
