THANK YOU PAT AND BRENDA

Pat and Brenda were both hands on volunteers at KAR when they lived in the TRNC (Pat is still doing her bit from the UK by helping with Facebook and Messenger). Recently, they arrived back in the TRNC for a holiday, and much needed catch up time with their friends, bringing with them oodles of goodies for the animals at the Rescue Centre.
It was absolutely fabulous to see them both and lots of fuss was made of some of the older 4 legged residents who remembered them and some of the not so old 4 legged residents who just love meeting new people.
We hope you have a fantastic holiday and thank you so much for the goodies. We all, including our dogs and cats, appreciate your kindness and ongoing support.

THANK YOU SYBILLE, ROBERT AND HELGA

We had some lovely visitors at our office last Monday bringing with them fabulous pressies for the animals in our Rescue Centre.
Here is a photo of Sybille, Robert and Helga together with their goodies. Thank you so much to you all for thinking of us.
If you have room in your luggage and you would like to bring something to us as a donation, when you travel to the TRNC for vacation or to visit your home here, please contact our office on kartrnc@gmail.com and we will send you a copy of our wish list. It doesn’t have to big or cost a fortune. As they say every little helps.

BYE BYE BABY, BABY BYE BYE

As many TRNC residents know this week saw the departure of a favourite newspaper author. Shortly after Stephen left, on Tuesday morning, we were on our way to Ercan with his little cat Baby. We had been warned , several times, that although she was only a little cat that her “attitude” was huge !! The necessary alerts were on her travel box for our colleagues at HARC !!!
Well she was a complete “pussy cat” – not one grumble or hiss – nothing. Just bright eyed watching everything going on around her/us with interest. She was, it seems, on her best behaviour.
Although we knew that it was unlikely that Stephen would be picking up his emails whilst travelling we still kept sending updates to both him and Wendy who was waiting, in the UK, anxiously for Baby to arrive.
We knew, from our UK colleagues, that her clearance had been completed and that she was on her way home. But it was still nice to receive the following update from Wendy.
” Thanks for your latest update on Baby…….. such a relief that Baby turned up safe and sound at just after 5 pm yesterday.
Baby has settled so very well and more or less straight away ate and used her new litter tray when I put her in it. We’ve kept her in certain rooms and then opened up others and she’s been fascinated exploring every nook and cranny in each one. So I can honestly report one very happy little cat.
Thank you for all you’ve done in arranging her transfer to the UK”
Oh and ” Stephen arrived safely in the UK and cleared arrivals at Birmingham in no time at all. “
Bye bye Stephen and bye bye Baby – Happy DAY’s x

IN MEMORY OF MANFRED BERNER

It was with great sadness we heard of the recent passing of Manfred Berner and we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.
We were very grateful to receive a generous donation from Detlef Meyer Steinbock sent to us in his memory. It was brought into our office by a lovely lady called Ruth. Thank you all very much for thinking of us.

MORE LOVELY DONATIONS FOR OUR RESCUE CENTRE ANIMALS

We had a wonderful donation of 7 huge bags of dog food arrive at our office last week. These were shipped immediately to our Rescue Centre where the dogs there thoroughly enjoyed them.
They came from a Yoga group based in Girne and we would like to thank the members of the group very much for this generous donation.

FINGERS CROSSED FOR BERRY

Poor Berry is again looking for her forever home.
She had been homed but has come back to us through no fault of her own, unfortunately her owners had plans but those plans didn’t include Berry. She was only a small pup when she first left our rescue centre and she is now about 7 months old, so she was a bit confused when she came back to the centre.
Berry is a sweet girl and she really does deserve a loving home – a permanent one this time. She has been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated so if you are interested, then please come and meet her – she would love to see you! Our rescue centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Please share for Berry and fingers crossed, it will be second time lucky for her!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVIE

Our senior lady Evie reaches the grand old age of 13 this month. We don’t know the exact date of her birthday but we do know that she has been with us since 2009. She may have spent all of her life at the centre but as you can see, she is one very happy dog!
Evie was so excited to see Elaine, our centre manager, after she returned to the centre after a few days off – just look how she jumps and whizzes around! She quite wears us out just watching her!! And her best friend Daphne, who herself is about 7 years old, doesn’t want to miss out and joins in the fun.
What a lovely video this is and it just goes to show that our older residents are always young at heart!

MY TIME AT KAR – SUE

” I’ve helped at the Centre for over 3 years. My role is primarily admin (updating databases, homing forms, treatment forms – all aspects of admin that we have to complete) and welcoming visitors wishing to see the work at the Centre, who want to walk dogs and, sadly far less frequently, those wanting to adopt a dog or cat.
The pandemic of course has seen a drastic reduction in visitor numbers, for many months at a time there has been none at all.
I am greeted every morning by our two house dogs, Eve and Daphne – this could of course be for the treats I have in my pocket! Even so I look forward to seeing them as they do me.
No two days are the same. Apart from caring for the animals we have also rescued tiny birds fallen from their nests.
Sadly there are tearful times when we lose a much loved resident to ill health, but also very happy times, all too infrequently, when we say goodbye to a dog or cat heading off to their new home.
Each and every resident at the Centre is cared for by the dedicated and amazing staff and I am very happy to play my small part. “
We expect not too many people appreciate exactly how much admin work (up at the Center and in the office) needs to be done and kept up to date….so as to be able to run KAR efficiently and so as to comply with various rules and regulations that we MUST comply with.
Thankyou Sue and the Office Angels.
All too often people say in the office, shop or just in general conversation “Oh i couldn’t go up there – it would break my heart as it would be so sad” – but it is not a sad place. The staff are happy, the volunteers are happy, the cats and dogs who live there are happy.
It is a HAPPY place.
What would make them all even more happy …. is to see more visitors.
The centre is open every day from 09.00 to 1pm. If you want to walk 1 or more of our dogs then please arrive early as it is will be too hot for the dogs to be out walking as it gets later.

GABBY, LOGAN AND MASON

We have received the following photos of Logan (in the harness) Mason (beautiful black dog enjoying cuddles), and Gabby (posing on the rug). All 3 dogs left the rescue centre to their new homes in Germany recently. They all have different new owners but Logan and Mason are in fact neighbours and enjoy exercise time together whenever they can.
Enjoy the rest of your lives in your happy furever after homes Gabby, Logan and Mason.

GENEVIEVE

Today’s appeal for a forever home comes from Genevieve. This gorgeous girl is the sister of Gerry, whose video we posted a few days ago. We are amazed that such lovely looking dogs haven’t been offered a forever home.
Genevieve is now about a year old and is quite a calm, gentle girl for her age. She would make a wonderful addition to a family as she has so much love to give.
As you can see, she is the picture of health and as with all our adult dogs, she is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Please come up to our rescue centre if you think you might just like to give Genevieve a home, she would be very happy to meet you! We are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
