Little E and Ernold

No, you are not seeing double – here are Little E & Ernold and they are brother and sister!
These 2 are today’s oldies and they would love a home of their own. They came into the rescue centre along with their Mum back in 2014. Mum was the lucky one who found a home a few years ago but no-one showed any interest in these two, it’s so sad.
They don’t need to be homed together, both are very friendly and get on well with other dogs. Both are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested, then please come to the shelter and meet Little E & Ernold. Alternatively you can sponsor one of them for just £10 a month – please e-mail our office kartrnc@gmail.com for further details.
Thank you for reading Little E & Ernolds’ story and please, please share for them!

Our Cattery 2022

Cats and the cattery.
For those of us who have been long time supporters of KAR, and remember the deterioration over the years of the original cattery the renovated one was a very pleasing sight.
No more leaky roof, no more rusty wire: bright and airy, and all beautifully clean. There has been a reconfiguration of the pens to make a large communal living area for sociable cats, whilst keeping some smaller pens for those cats who are timid and prefer to be in a smaller group.
There are beds and sitting places to suit all tastes! Some up high, some down low and some for those cats that like to hide away. There is a wonderful climbing stand for the more adventurous and comfy swings for the more laid back! There are also toys for those that want to go all kittenish!
In fact it is everything that a cat could ask for…… or is it?
The cats are all in such good condition and loved and cared for by the staff, but, like the dogs, some have been there for many years, with no experience of home comforts. Some may have been raised by foster carers from when they were only a few days old , until they were old enough to go to the Rescue Centre in the hope of finding permanent homes, and are still waiting. If they could, all would have a story to tell.
But, cats like to sit on laps, snuggle up in bed, curl up on the backs of armchairs, shout for food just when you are sitting down to eat your dinner etc, etc.
And cats really like to be able to experience the garden, explore, play, or snooze in the sun or shade depending on their preference .
In the cattery there are pictures of all the cats with information about each one displayed on magnetic boards. Energetic or laid back, there are over thirty to choose from, and the info is very useful.
Please come and visit the Rescue Centre. The dogs will clamour for your attention, but the cats sit and patiently wait, don’t forget them, they too are in need of forever homes. Could it be a lucky day for one of them ?

our old boy Joel, looking for his happy ever after.

Today’s Goldie Oldie is Joel.
Joel is another of our beautiful dogs that has spent most of his life at the rescue centre. He came to us back in 2013 when he was just a small puppy. He has seen some of his friends to go their forever homes but poor Joel has never been that lucky.
He is now 9 years old but still very young at heart. He loves to play and go for walks, what he would like next is someone to give him a loving home.
Joel would love to meet you if you think you might like to take him home with you. Our rescue centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Remember – even if you can’t offer him a home, you can sponsor Joel for just £10 a month!

a home for our Sooty, please……

Sadly, black cats (and dogs) get overlooked, we really don’t understand why.
This rather distinguished looking cat is Sooty. He’s never had any interest, despite his lovely temperament. He would make a very good companion for someone and would love to enjoy some home comforts.
Sooty is now 5 years old and he arrived at the centre when he was just 6 weeks of age, a really tiny kitten.
The centre is open every day between 9am and 1pm if you would like to come and meet Sooty. Even if you can’t offer Sooty his longed for home, please share and let’s hope he finds a home very soon!

Cattery revamp and reopening.

Saturday saw the opening of our revamped cattery.
Denise from Bayrak Radio led the proceedings. This lovely lady is a major supporter of KAR, even adopting her very own 3 legged ‘Bertie Wobble’ from the centre 3 years ago! She thanked everyone for coming and congratulated Elaine (our centre supervisor) on her brainwave to revamp the cattery. She emphasised how the work has been carried out on a “shoestring budget'” with pallets, donated tiles, wood, etc.
Denise then thanked the wonderful 2 members of our team, David and Paul for their dedication in getting the work done to such a high standard.
David and Paul then cut the ribbon and the new cattery was opened! Everyone then got the chance to go down to the cattery and see the refurbishment for themselves. We think they were impressed!

Happy ever after for Sadie.

We love it when one of our centre dogs finds a loving home. Sadie flew to the UK recently and this is the message that we received from Hitesh shortly after she arrived –
“Good morning from London,
Sadie is settling in nicely; she has made friends with all my dogs.
I’ve also enrolled Sadie onto a Kennel Club approved scent detection class , to stimulate her mind, her first class is on Monday hope it goes well fingers crossed!
Sadie’s favourite treats are scooby snacks (she chose these from the pet shop)😁lol, she will do anything for them hahaha. So far, she has learnt sit, stay, down, heel, long distance stay, and her recall is at about 90%.
I will keep you posted with updates and on how Sadie’s classes are going.
Elaine at the rescue centre knows how much I love Sadie, please send my regards to everyone at the rescue centre and all the staff at Kyrenia Rescue.
Once again thank you for the help for getting Sadie home to me.”
What a lovely message! We think that Sadie is going to enjoy her new life in London very much indeed!!

Ebony, Older is better, rehome or foster……. help her have a happy every after.

Continuing our quest to home an oldie in November – this is Ebony.
This sweet, lively girl has been with us since 2013 – 11 years – far too long for any dog to spent their life in a shelter. She was found in Girne along with her litter of puppies, brought to safety and has been with us ever since.
Despite being in her senior years, she is a very spritely dog – she loves to go for walks and run around to explore. It would be wonderful if Ebony could find a loving home so she can spend her twilight years in comfort. It’s not much to ask for, is it?
She would love to meet you so if you are interested in offering Ebony a forever home, please come up to the rescue centre and see her for yourself. We are open every day between 9am and 1pm.
Please, please share for Ebony. Don’t forget you can also sponsor her for just £10 a month – e-mail kartrnc@gmail.com for further details.
