Kyrenia Animal Rescue, or simply KAR as it’s known, is an an animal charity close to our hearts in Northern Cyprus, where we have a house. The animal charity helps hundreds of sick, injured, neglected and homeless animals and yet receives no government assistance, so it is purely funded by donations, sponsorship, legacies, the charity shop and fund raising events. Lots of ex pats, plus university students work tirelessly to help the dogs and cats at the shelter and in the local areas.

At any given time they can have around 200-300 dogs plus many cats at the shelter, which is situated at the foot of five finger mountain. Even with fairly good global re homing rates, their work is relentless as they struggle to manage the numbers, where they are usually full to capacity and yet they give the animals the best quality of life they can, utilising all the areas of the centre, plus fostering out some dogs. They have interior and outdoor kennel pens, the puppy wing, the cattery (which has just seen a massive refurb), vet centre, quarantine area and outdoor play area. They also allow the public to go between 9 am and 1pm (heat permitting) to walk the dogs along the beautiful mountain paths, giving the animals a flavour of ‘normal’ dog life.

In spite of all the challenges, even in the height of summer, the centre is kept scrupulously clean and fresh, a testimony to how hard the staff and volunteers continually work to the highest standards.

Here at Puppy Love Yoga we now have 3 dogs which we sponsor on a monthly basis. (I will attach photos and a link to KAR page). It’s just £10 per dog, per month and the extra money really does make a difference.

We are also doing charity Puppy Love Yoga mugs and the profits will go directly to KAR to help with some of the vet bills they currently have – dogs which need spaying, neutering and 2 hernia operations.
