MY TIME AT KAR – SUE

” I’ve helped at the Centre for over 3 years. My role is primarily admin (updating databases, homing forms, treatment forms – all aspects of admin that we have to complete) and welcoming visitors wishing to see the work at the Centre, who want to walk dogs and, sadly far less frequently, those wanting to adopt a dog or cat.
The pandemic of course has seen a drastic reduction in visitor numbers, for many months at a time there has been none at all.
I am greeted every morning by our two house dogs, Eve and Daphne – this could of course be for the treats I have in my pocket! Even so I look forward to seeing them as they do me.
No two days are the same. Apart from caring for the animals we have also rescued tiny birds fallen from their nests.
Sadly there are tearful times when we lose a much loved resident to ill health, but also very happy times, all too infrequently, when we say goodbye to a dog or cat heading off to their new home.
Each and every resident at the Centre is cared for by the dedicated and amazing staff and I am very happy to play my small part. “
We expect not too many people appreciate exactly how much admin work (up at the Center and in the office) needs to be done and kept up to date….so as to be able to run KAR efficiently and so as to comply with various rules and regulations that we MUST comply with.
Thankyou Sue and the Office Angels.
All too often people say in the office, shop or just in general conversation “Oh i couldn’t go up there – it would break my heart as it would be so sad” – but it is not a sad place. The staff are happy, the volunteers are happy, the cats and dogs who live there are happy.
It is a HAPPY place.
What would make them all even more happy …. is to see more visitors.
The centre is open every day from 09.00 to 1pm. If you want to walk 1 or more of our dogs then please arrive early as it is will be too hot for the dogs to be out walking as it gets later.
