R.I.P. NANNY

We are devastated to report that Nanny, our lovely elderly girl, has passed away. This is Nanny’s story –
Nanny was found chained to a tree at the back of our office in April 2019. She was around 9 years old. She was such a frightened girl not knowing why she had been abandoned there.
She was taken to the Centre where it was obvious she was dumped due to health problems. Nanny tested positive for Leishmaniasis and Ehrlichia. We started treatment and she did improve, but there was obviously something else wrong. We then noticed her mammary tumours. We were unsure whether Nanny would be strong enough to undergo surgery, but she had become one of our family and we wanted to do the best we could for her. She recovered from the surgery really well and it transformed her into a more confident, happy girl.
Nanny did have a home offer, but was not accepted by the other dog in the home, so we moved Nanny into the cattery where she lived happily – running around the outside area, greeting the visitors, keeping the cats in order, sorting the cat litter, gardening in the outside pots and doing quality control on the cat food! She had such a fun time and it was wonderful to see her enjoying life.
Nanny did not show any signs that she was ill and was happily running around the day before. It was a complete shock, she died so suddenly. Although her time with us was short, in her last few twilight years she was happy, cared for and loved and that’s what matters.
RIP Nanny – we miss you.
